Chamaeleo dilepis

I've always liked them and since I found a captive bred (from one of the sponsors) I decided to order - He should be arriving in the next week or 2- I've read the care sheets and I think I'm ready but any insight from someone who's had them or has them would be greatly appreciated-
I'm getting pretty excited - I'm planning on finishing up getting his starter cage ready this weekend - were working on a "chameleon room" and his cage will be the first to go in- the rest will move in after a quarantine period - I'm not sure how long to go on that- I want him to be able to settle in and get comfortable before a trip to the vet - but my vet will do a fecal without me having to bring him in- I'm getting excited - did I mention that yet?...

From other cages I assume he isn't your first chameleon. If you've had a veiled, I've heard their care is fairly similar. We do need pics though!

I've kept Chamaeleo dilepis! I usually don't recommend wild caught Flapnecks but captive hatched or captive bred are a delight. The dilepis come from a wide swath of Africa and occupy many ecological niches in regards to temperatures and humidity etc. Targeting the temperatures of a Veiled would be a good start but I would increase humidity a little. I didn't find the dilepis to be super active so a larger cage may not be necessary. They are fairly shy so having a densely planted cage will be beneficial.

Thanks for the info - I was sort of worried on how the misting would work when I move the other two and the aquazamp upstairs - I'm glad they need more humidity instead of less- for now he's going to be hand misted and have a dripper - plant shopping tomorrow-

I kept an awesome flapneck years ago. I negotiated her from a local pet shop in which she was nearly dead for $10. I started with a cage, but was not happy with the lack of humidity. I shuffled some other herps around and got her moved into a large tall aquarium that was heavily planted, and she really thrived in there.

She was unlike any other chameleon I've ever dealt with. She would always try and crawl onto my arm when I doing vivarium maintenance. One time, when I was away for a few days, a family member forgot to put the top back on and she had escaped. we searched all over the house, and assumed our dog ate her. A few weeks went by, and one day while watching tv she crawled onto my arm looking none the worse for wear.

Anyway, enough of me reminiscing about my younger years. Similar care like a panther or jackson's is good. I dusted with calcium once a week, and herptivite every three weeks or so.

Enjoy your new cham and feel free to post pics.

If the animal you are getting is truly captive bred just ask the seller how they were keeping the adults. They must have been doing something right to get them breeding in the first place.

Thanks so much .
I had read that article at some point a while ago but couldn't find it again and it was starting to make me crazy.
