Cat litter for locust vivarium

I have a ft long viv for my locusts and as we all know they stink!!!! I was wondering if I could use kitty litter for a substrate to eliminate this odour problem. Obviously my main concern is if the feeders eat the litter and in turn pass it on to my chameleons! Could anyone be of any assistance, I've looked on google and nowhere says its dangerous.

Probably because there are many types of cat litter...everything from recycled paper to clay. Some have added odor neutralizing chemicals that might kill the locusts or cause problems if they chew on it. I've had some luck scattering alfalfa on the bottom of the tank. They stink more if you don't keep them really clean and dry, or overcrowd them. I also keep their wet foods in separate containers rather than loose on the tank floor so its easier to clean up.

Thank you for your information, I went for porridge oats in the end. I keep my wet food in separate containers, like yourself. I keep a maximum of 200 mediums at any one time and have plenty of space for them in there with egg cartons and sticks.
