Carpet or Veiled?

I have the option of buying either a veiled or a carpet. Should a first time owner such as myself stick with the veiled or are carpets hardy enough for my care?

Both require a ton of research. Pick one, research it for 2 months, think about it, set aside a lot of money so you know that you can get 100% everything it needs. Carpet are not as hardy, but in the end there both very exotic reptiles. Just make sure you know what your doing. Do your homework . Please.

I have been doing general research for about a month and a half now. I have pretty much everything (tall, mesh cage, UVB and basking, hibicus, etc) I am thinking about the carpet because my cage is 40' tall and I don't think that is big enough for a veiled.

The difference between a carpets and vields needs is astrinomical. There 2 totaly dofferent ball games and all parts of there care, husbandry, feeding, and overall care is completely differnt. If your going carpet, make sure you know everything and I mean everything! There not as forgiving as vields. Not just general, I mean suplement lists and amounts ,temps, humid levels, types of enclosure ,feeding, watering, safe plant lists, and health issue and sexing and blah blah blah. All of this is sooo important. If not looked into with macro detail before purchase your gona waste a lot of money, and posibly harm the chameleon. So choose wisely.

I think I have decided on the carpet. I'm starting my research now! Can't wait. My cage comes in Tuesday. I am going to start setting it up ASAP. I will post pics when it is finished for approval and tips. Thank you for your advice.

So you ask for advice, 2 out of 2 say go with a veiled & you are getting a carpet??? I get confused so easily. btw your cage is tall enough to accommodate a female veiled.

I love my carpets and my yemen. While i dont have as much experience as the other posters here i would have to agree with them. Get a captive bred Yemen first and raise it up. They are hardy amd have fun personalities. You find out fast if you have the desire to put in te money and time it takes for a cham like a carpet.

If u go with the carpets make sure to have lots of plants and hiding spots as they like to hide A lot. Playing the "where the hell did the lateralis go game" with my wife is an afternoon event.

Gluck and go captive bred.

I guess I'll go with a female veiled then. Seem to be less trouble.

Female Veileds can also be a handful as well if they aren't properly cared for, as they do lay eggs and do search for nesting spots whether or not they have a mate. Not any reason to not look into one though!

I have both carpets and veileds and I would definitely say veiled for a first timer. They are more friendly whereas the carpets stay small and like to hide.

Just ordered my veiled! My cage is all set up perfectly. Temps and humidity are perfect. UVB is working. All I need is the chameleon and a good name. I was thinking about Stella.
