Careful if you buy from Josh's Frogs!

First off I want to say that I LOVE Josh's Frogs and use them for my feeders and other needs for my Cham! They have the best customer service and quality feeders!!

However, I received a letter in the mail from them stating that their systems were hacked and credit card information stolen. I didn't see the letter for several days. My Bad. I thought it was an ad.

I received a call today from my banks fraud department. I called them back and spoke to a live person. I had several pending charges from TODAY that came from several places I don't use such as
  • Spotify
  • Netflix
  • BSL*EPRO PAYMENT
  • WWE NETWORK
  • DSC*DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB

They are doing all they can to control and prevent this from happening again, but I got stung for the tune of about $80. Nothing I can't live without, but the fact someone posed as me is infuriating.

The only charge from today that was legit was a charge from the local Kroger's for about $40 for groceries.

BTW, One of the transactions had a 800 number. I called it. My card was used to purchase $20 worth of porn (yes, porn..). The party who collected the money refunded the money AND gave me the name and email of the person who bought it. They also stated they will cooperate with the police and provide the IP address. I hope the name and email is legit. I'm considering this avenue if possible to but a hurt back on these cheats.

I can't be sure it was from the Josh's Frog hack, but its very coincidental that it occurred within a few days. What a pain in the a$$ now to change EVERY thing I automate and all my bill pays, google wallet, eBay , PayPal etc....:(

Just be careful out there.

I'm an idiot. I spelled buy as "by" in the title of this thread. ....why can't I change this???

Wow! I got that email from them as well. They have a 5$ coupon or something for the problem, but imo that's not worth the trouble. I ordered from them in the time too, I better keep an eye out. Sorry this happened to you. I have had pretty good experiences dealing with them otherwise.

Yes, I got the email with the coupon code. I plan on taking advantage of it, but still what a PIA! I LOVE Josh's frogs, and will use them thru PayPal from now on. (But who's to say PayPal can't be hacked??)

I mean no ill will towards them, but just wanted to give others the heads up. I may be wrong in my conclusion about the use of my credit card was from the Josh's Frogs site, but based on my purchases and the timing it is very suspicious.

I just ordered crickets last week, Friday. What was the window of time when they were hacked?

QUOTED FORM MY EMAIL:
  • This affects customers who placed orders on our website using a credit card between May 10th (our last clean scan) and early morning May 23rd
  • It is unclear if they were successful or not in harvesting credit card information entered on our site. If they were successful, the compromised information is limited to credit card numbers and expiration dates.
  • We do not store any credit card information on our servers.
  • Only orders placed at JoshsFrogs.com were affected.
  • Orders placed through eBay or Amazon were NOT affected.
  • Orders paid via PayPal or placed by telephone were NOT affected.

Fixed it for you. Sorry you are dealing with this. Unfortunate that we have to deal with this crap.
Thanks! (For the fix and comment.)

Your bank should be removing those bogus charges from your account, at no charge to you. That's why they have a fraud dept. I'm not sure where that $80 is coming from, but it shouldn't have costed you even that much.

Yes I agree with Angelwolf my account got hacked once, and the bank gave me everything back. Sometimes it may take a bit to clarify the fraud, but they should take care of it.

It says a lot that Josh's stepped right up and let customers know! How maddening for them as well to have to clean up the mess.

Yes it does!

He's what I don't understand.....I caught the transaction while they were PENDING, nothing had cleared my account. The bank said there is nothing they can do until the charges have posted and the money is gone. Only then they can return the money. Seems if there is a dispute, they should freeze the release of the funds until resolved. Then I would have not been out any money or waiting to see it returned into my account..

Same thing happened to me held my account hostage for few days so to speak, but they did make it right just had to wait. I was like you though why give them the money if you haven't sent it? The way they explained it to me is the money my drop off without actually coming out of your account. So they can't reimburse it until it is actually gone.

I use paypal for everything most of the time (at least if I can) I got my account for paypal hacked somehow, and someone tried to spend a ridiculous amount of money, paypal contacted me on my phone through a text and asked if it was me, I responded "no" like they wanted and they didn't allow it to go through. No issues at all. Then all I did was change my passwords ^^ I have had the same passwords for about the last 2 years, so it was about time.
