Apparently so. Here is a pic and there is a video of a panther swimming in a bathtub on youtube.

Wow that's a neat pic. Panthers can swim but you have to be careful that water doesnt enter their respiratory system.

This video was taken in Germany. The owner explained that the chameleon actually went to the water himself, and was not forced at any moment. As the possibility of drowning is pretty high for a chameleon (and i heard seeing a chameleon drowning is very disturbing), i strongly suggest not forcing any chameleon into water. However, that video shows that if a chameleon wants to swim, they can!

They can swim and can swim good. When I was staying with my Aunt and Uncle during 1997 (Santa Ynez) I brought my chameleons with me. Their place had a Koi pond that was circular and had an island in the middle. I figured it was a good opportunity to give one of my panthers (an Ambanja) some free ranging and exposure to natural sunlight. Walked away for about 5 minutes and came back to see the chameleon climbing on the other side of the pond. I gathered him up and put him back on the island and in front of me he went into the water and swam across to the other side without hesitation. After that no more free ranging on the island.

They puff their lungs up to the maximum capacity and swim like a snake while using their legs to swim with as well. I actually had considered writing an article about it for the CIN.

FYI, posting that photo without credit to the photographer is a violation of copyright and site rules regarding copyright (https://www.chameleonforums.com/copyright-36782/). If you want to post about someone elses photo, post a link to the original source (http://www.de-kvn.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3271), don't reproduce the image. Also, the topic of chameleons swimming has been brought up many times and this particular photo has been discussed a couple as well:

I have never really imagined them swimming but the photo gives proof. I would never put mine straight into water either as to worry that water would get in to the respiratory system and cause problems. Interesting photo though!

Being snooty has nothing to do with it. Its an interesting series of photos but the photo wasn't yours and it was not your place to reproduce it. Providing a link to the place you found it is all you needed to do. Providing a link doesn't violate copyright law or the rules of this forum but copying the photo and posting it without permission or credit to the owner does. Many of the members of this forum have had their photographs taken by others without their permission or credit being given and few appreciate it.

Chris, not to thread jack, but what programs do you recommend for putting your name on your photos? I noticed yours are very professional and I like the font. Do you use special software for this? Thanks.

YOu can use gimp, it is freeware just google it. It will make stuff like this, but i dont know how to get your copyright on it.
