Copyright abuse has unfortunately become more frequent in recent months. There is a growing trend of thought on the internet that believes everything is open source and free to distribute; not only do they think this is ethical, but they also believe it lawful. To try and help counter such thought, I decided to make this post as a reminder that copyright abuse is considered a serious issue at Chameleon Forums. I would like to promote the proper citing of information, and to discourage unlawful copying. This is true whether information is being copied to or from Chameleon Forums. If you discover such an occurrence, please report the problem to site staff.

I'm not a lawyer or expert on the matter, so I will not waste your time pretending to be one. Instead, I will mention the most common problem found on this website, and then offer a few links for those that want to learn more. The most common problem encountered is the copying of full posts and articles from one website to another. Without explicit permission from the content owner this behavior violates copyright law. While leaving a link to the source along with the fully copied article does show improvement, it too is copyright abuse and is against site policy. If you're interested in learning more, I recommend doing some quick research on copyright law and the 'fair use' exemption.

I will modify this post when time allows and improvements are needed. If anyone wants to discuss this further please make a new thread in the feedback forum.
