I don't know if the pictures will post right or not, but I finished building and decorating my cage...thoughts? I am super proud, but if there is anything i can do to improve, do tell. Thanks...i am ordering my little guy Sunday...

You could add a lot more vines and plants! Chameleons like lots and lots of cover.

that mmmm..... maybe 1/3 the foliage your cham is gonna need to feel safe and secure in his/her new home.

I started with that, and ended up adding two more large ampallo vines from petco to it. I am considering adding even more.

Im not a fan of cages but nice job building it needs alot more plants a basking light uvb light make sure the mesh holds up to heat and isnt flamable because basking light needs to sit ontop of cage not in cage

I would say put a large bushy tree right in the middle of that triangle the vines make. It would spread out great. Maybe a ficus. Either that or you could hang a large pothos down from the top to drop down into the triangle. Either way, needs more cover. Maybe check out this, maybe your interested?

Cool, Thanks, i figured i would get a couple more fake vines and branches, and one more live plant, but i think its coming along nicely. Thanks for the feedback

might want to cover up the dirt in the pot if it eats any of that dirt it will kill it. And those kind of plants chams cant grip very easly and tend to slip off. And get a digital thermometer that also tells you humidity a must have before you get cham the cheap ones that are not digital are very very very bad

Ya, i am going to repot the plant and cover it. Eric from cham101 suggested another tree i can get around here. I still have some work to do.

I still haven't seen a documented case of half of the things regularly posted here as safety concerns.
Its true they may be undocumented but they are CONCERNS. its like would you have a toddler running around without your electricity plugs covered up? He might never stick his finger in the plug but it only takes one time.

Nicely put!

There are documented cases, x-rays from Vets showing rocks or other foreign bodies in the digestive tract.
AND-I don't really care how anything looks on a cage bottom as long as it is easy to clean! :)

That's a stupid example as it's long been established that electricity can kill. Electrical sockets where I live (UK) are designed so you can only realisticly complete a circuit with the earth connection plugged in, which opens up the other two contacts. I've even heard some people claim that a socket covering up device actually provides means for a toddler to open up the earth contact and poke another conductor in the live hole. I see what you're getting at but I don't see how it supports the need to cover up the soil in plant pots.

Are you able to link to any such reports in which this is determined as the cause of death of a chameleon? Also, 'rocks and other foreign bodies' isn't the same as the soil in plant pots the OP was warned about. Most people on this forum use uncovered soil in plant pots, based on what I've seen and this was the subject of the controversial claim (below) in this post.

I wasn't just referring to this in particular. It's rare to see a topic on here without someone replying claiming something to be unsafe and the words 'toxic', 'impactation', 'burn' and 'bite' at some point appearing. Sometimes they are spot on but often it is just something repeated off another misinformed post. Until someone provides me with evidence to say plant soil is dangerous and needs to be covered up I believe this claim to be an example of this.

As much as I love this forum and most of the people who post here, it does at times appear to contain some of the most safety conscious people in the world. I love my chameleon as much as everyone else loves their's and I'm not going to do anything to jepordise his safety but I simply don't think it's right to make claims about safety, presented as completely factual and certain, without providing supporting evidence.

If you don't believe chameleons can become impacted, my first chameleon did from the plants in his cage. He didn't die however, so DJ, better to say it can die, not will.

:) I agree with Julirs and Jeanjacket!

You will find the "most safety conscious people in the world" often have older chameleons than the non-"most safety conscious people in the world". ;)
