Cage Clawing

I open the door and my male veild will come out on the open door , I take my time and let him climb on my hand , sometines he still gets fussy but always climbs on my hand the I let him free roam for awhile :>)

So far his personality is he's a big grumpy butt. I left his cage door open when I got home, but he just turned away from the door so I closed it. I try to pet him, but the only part he has no problem with is his tail. If I try to pet his body, he bloats and does his hiss/growl thing that he does.

Definitely need a larger cage and from the looks of it more foliage for him to walk around on. Try opening the door and just leave it open for a while. When I first started doing this I would open it and leave the room (just around the corner so he thought I was gone) because he was terrified of me and eventually he would climb up on top of the door. Once he was out i would offer my hand and slowly he would climb on. Now when he sees me he will come to the front of his cage and as soon as I get the door open he climbs right out onto my hand. He probably doesn't like you invading his space and he probably really doesn't like you "petting" him. Chameleons aren't really a pettable animal. Have you tried hand feeding him treats? That's a great way to help bond with them.

Yeah, I was planning on getting more plants for him, as well as vines. I will have to order another cage online, because the pet stores near me only have a medium sized cages or smaller. Though I was told that Veiled chameleons are poor hunters, and that is so not the case with Fredric. As soon as I put crickets in his cage he moves really fast, when he wants to. lol. I have tried to hand feed him, but he gives me the evil eye, so to speak. His cage is in my bedroom, because I am afraid that one of the cat's will figure out how to open his cage and try to kill him. She has killed a scorpion that my boyfriend had. I really don't want Fredric to become another reptile/animal that she killed.

They're definitely not poor hunters. I've got two veiled and both are good hunters. The one is recovering from MBD and still can hunt. And just be patient. Try cup feeding for starters and then once you find his favorite, try hand feeding then. It takes quite a bit time for them to tolerate you and to realize you aren't going to eat them lol
