I think it depends on what materials you choose to use. I got a 24 X 24 X 48 for around $80 on LLL Reptile site. That was 8 months ago though, so I don't know if the pricew are still the same. I am not sure you could build one for that but maybe so.

It all depends on how you make it! I just built one out of oak, and it was much more expensive that way. My advice is to go to the store, price out what you think the materials will be, decide if it is worth the savings (if any) and go from there. I needed a specific size for my build, and would have paid more by having someone build it for me. I also really like looking at something I created vs. a pre-made cage. Lots of ideas available on this forum, so good luck with your decision!

I agree, it depends also on what materials you have at home vs. having to buy. For example, building a wooden cage is great if you already have nails, wood glue, wood sealant, etc. but if you need to buy all that stuff, you've very quickly gone over-budget. Just a good type of sealant seems to run for $20 or more for a little jug of it.

I've built my own cages and think buying the screen ones is cheaper. I would, however, prefer to spend the extra money and pay a professional to make beautiful cages for me but where my budget stands, buying screen cages is better.

If you have some materials in a way yes. I did try to build one but I end up with a $124 bill. It was more for the idea of making it myself with the kids but.. Who was I kidding. It was cheaper to buy it already made online. I search online and craigslist and I found a $60 24x24x48 cage with fake Plants and a Dripper. Not bad. Did like the idea but like most comments might be better to buy it.

Best advice I can give is to have real detailed plans prior to starting. This will give you a better idea of how much material and cost you will need to plan for. Then, add about 30% more for the additional cast that you did not think of. If you guessed correctly, you feel like you saved money!

Is great to build because its fun and something to share and experience but it is hard work in making it Cham proof all around

I bought the reptibreeze 2x2x4 cage only to realize during assembly its just window screens screwed together with a hinge on one side. Materials all available at any big box. I always found the design and set up were my fav. part. And you can build it exactly to fit your needs.

I've built all 3 adult cages for my chams when I had 2. It cost me around $150 for all of them. But when you use corner braces they add up fast
