Bottled water?

Purified or distilled water is probably better to use for chameleons...many here have Reverse Osmosis purification systems installed in their houses just so they can give their chameleons clean water. Hard water contains a lot of calcium carbonate, and as that is a supplement used with chameleons, it's better to have complete control over it.

Bottled water would work just as fine as tap water that is de-chlorinated, it will help keep water stains down too! Maybe get a ton of gallon jugs of water, you can also invest in a reverse osmosis machine thing to help with your water needs.

No, Brita filters do not use reverse osmosis process to filter water. No "gravity feed" counter top pitchers or simple faucet attachment type filters are reverse osmosis. RO filtering requires a pump to force the water through several very fine filter membranes and the treated water is stored in a pressure tank. You need to install an RO system under a sink. If you are going to want RO filtered water for pets and yourself, it is really the best way to get good water. You do need to replace the filter cartridges periodically.
Yes, distilled water is the stuff used for ironing. It is created by boiling water and collecting the steam. The steam re-condenses as water once it cools down. This way it contains nothing other than pure H2O. You really shouldn't use distilled water for cham drinking as it has absolutely no micronutrients that are beneficial.

As long as the bottled water does not contain chlorine it should be OK. Based on the mineral content of the water (all non-distilled water has some naturally occurring minerals and this can be part of the good taste) it might leave some mineral deposits on your plant leaves but not too bad.

There's a lot of debate on whether the "micronutrients" are, in fact, beneficial for an animal which evolved to drink rain water. Distilled is certainly better than tap water in most cases. Brita filters remove only the things that taste bad. Most notably, they do not remove fluoride and fluroride is thought by some to be very detrimental to chameleons.

Yes, I'm sure we really don't know about micronutrients in rainwater. I was thinking that most of the rainwater wild chams get has been in contact with lots of plant surfaces on its way down to their tongues! My water is rock hard well water that isn't treated with anything, so I forget about municipal water containing fluorides. A Brita type filter won't remove this stuff either. If you are using municipal tap water and you don't test it yourself to see what it actually has in it, I'd use RO, bottled, or even distilled water or treat it with a product like ReptiSafe to remove those chemicals.

Look into the water you buy though, most bottled water is notorious for not having undergone any special process, and is still, in essence, no better than tap.
Don't aquarium stores sell RO water? Usually for cents, you may look and see if any fish store offers any for sale and then you just take a couple 5 gal buckets to get filled.

I use distilled. Bottled water can still have certain poisons in it that are not filtered out thru normal filtration such as medications (flushed) detergents, pesticides(lawn care). All these things go back into the water table. I dont know about micro nutrients. I would think all nutrients are absorbed from diet and the body makes others. I know in humans water will pass from Higher to Lower concentrations if the membrane is permeable. (Osmosis) Passive transport is just water, facilitated is when something such as glucose attaches itself to water to pass thru a channel in the membrane, Active is when something binds to water such as Sodium to be transported thru a membrane. There are little pumps for Cl, Na, Po. They will not pass thru membranes without help and would be filtered out of water and blood in the kidneys and than put back into the blood thru certain mechanisms. I dont know about Panthers but the cleaner your water, the better. My Panther likes to lick it off the screen as I mist him, if the water had minerals in it my enclosure would have alot of deposits on it. You can keep distilled in a plastic jug and it wont go bad. Bottled has to be refrigerated once its opened or it fouls.
