I always have some that escaped out of dishes turning into flies in various cages, a few get loose not a big deal. However, I would use for caution with blue bottle fly maggots, you don't want too many of those pupating at once. I also had a curly wing housefly colony going for a while. The media to grow them in is a bit concerning to me and you have to look around a bit to find them.
