I have been bitten several times by male chameleons. It hurts, lol. They can and will take a chunk of flesh. It's nothing compared to a medium sized snake or anything, but it does hurt and I would recommend being cautious if you have an overly agressive chameleon.
I have a male panther named Reggie who prides himself on trying to devour my fingers anytime I come near his cage.
Is he a sambava?
The danger in a bite is to you, of course, but also to the chameleon because human nature is to instantly "fling" the cham off your hand or finger. You have to be prepared to override your instinct and not fling. Flinging will certainly cause serious injury and likely eventual death to the chameleon. Our one reptile vet said that most reptile injuries he's treated were the result of "flinging" impacts.

That's the tread.
i wonder who scared the H*** out of you....
Can't denied it! I was thinking about you!
A Med-Large female Veiled did this to me last summer. Wasn't extremely painful, but it wasn't extremely pleasant either,...
She just split it, right there on the upper right part. I didn't give her enough time to do the 'Death Roll' and pull a chunk or flap. I must say, they power was just a little more than I expected.
