Big day out for chamnewton!!

So I have been handling my cham everyday and he is always calm, never gets dark or fires up / never even thought of hissing or biting, so I decided to take him with me on a 15 minute trip to petco a few blocks up.

It was a tad chilly out not terrible tho, so I tucked him underneath my coat where he took a small nap.

Who else knows of people taking their chams out with them and what their experiences have been with some adventurous handling?

my cham

my cham goes plases with me the mall, out to breakfast, the pet store, he seems to have a good time and gets lots of attention I don't let people touch or hold him just look i did have one asain lady ask can I hold him after she had already half way picked him up. I was not happy about that and said he bites and she backed off. Bodhi didn't mind and if he gets to the point he is cold or unhappy he just climbs in my jacket and hides. His favorit places is my hat or the top of my head nested in my hair. So fatr he does not mind hanging out with us when we go places. he does get pissed off if no one is home when his lights goes off and he shows by sleeping on the cage door to let us know he is mad and also so he knows when I get home (cause I put him back in the tree.

Daedalus comes with me to walk my dog sometimes. I've taken him to a reptile show before and he got a lot of attention, people were really amazed. I might take him other places for short trips but I always worry that if they get really uncomfortable there's no where I can put them so they escape the stress. I can't leave him in the car, for example. Although when we go back and forth across the state for vacations or visits he rides happily on one of the headrests. It doesn't matter what box I put him in, within 30 minutes he's managed to squeeze his chubby self out of it. So I let him ride on the headrests.

outtings

I have taken Simone out a couple of times with me & she seems to like it.
I took her into Tractor Supply with me & a local cat rescue was having an adoption event. I stopped by to say how I like rescue & adoptions & to give them kudos. I had her on my hand & suddenly one of them said "Is that real?"
At that point they all wanted to know about her & took her picture. She took it all in stride. Everyone enjoyed seeing her & she had one front leg up for a bit & she took hold of one of their fingers like she was shaking hands...lol

I had her in a mesh "pop-up" container. I hung it in the car so she wouldn't bounce with every bump. she decided to climb up & them up the strap & onto the hanger... my friends laughed at the pictures & said she was a "swinger". The only time she got mad was when I put her in the hard cage to keep her outta trouble while I helped a friend load some furniture.

All in all, we had a nice time. She didn't want to go back in her room when we got home.

I would LOVE to do that with my cham when he gets older, but I know I would be stressing my brains out.

Ahaha mines about 7+ months old, hes far too young in my opinion to go on serious adventures, i had him tucked in my coat where he closed his eyes and napped for a bit. he got a lil frisky on the subway tho.

I really stand by my theories on "creatures of habit"
- when you do something regularly, your animal will recognize it as routine and it will not create stress, aka, handling your cham everyday from the moment you get him/her, (in my opinion) is the best way to create a possible bound or willingness to be handled between you and your cham.

:) hopefully others agree

Would love to hear some more stories, and or pictures

Heres one of me and chamnewton in the subway.

LOVE your chams name!!

CauseNAffect? Does your chameleon sleep often or close his eyes during the day? If so, this is not normal and could be a sign of illness. Also, how cold is it in New York when you are taking him out like this?

Appreciate the concern but no he has never once slept during the day, I think it was because inside my jacket was pitch black that he closed his eyes.

its ok

its dark in the jacket so they sleep mine does the same thing he is I'm my jacket right now I brought him to class

Why? What's the fun of having a lizard sleeping in your shirt in a cold classroom? It's not like it's out at an event getting sunlight or doing something, he's just hiding. He'd be better off at home, I think. I had a classmate bring a ball python to class one day and the thing just sat there, cold, uncomfortable.

i have often thought that it would be fun to take my gizmo out on random trips but always end up not doing so as i dont want to stress him out
