bean weevil

so i bought a culture last week with like only 20 or so moving around the guy said in a couple weeks the population will explode. he had more established ones but figured they would be dying off soon,

the culture i bought seems like all the bugs have gotten stuck squished and died in the black eyed peas. dont have any left now unless some decide to show up from the peas. only fed off a couple to my cham.

any thoughts or advice on how to care for these guys for future reference?

It depends on which species of Bean beetle you have, but I have a tropical species that multiplies best at 80 degrees. All species are diurnal and need day and night light cycles.

Add 1 inch or so of fresh beans, heat them up, and see if the colony kicks into production.

were the beans old? did you add new ones before the live beetles died off?

either way, just keep them warm 75F-80F is best and wait. Can take a few weeks between hatchings.

thanks for the replies. they do have day night cycle as i keep everything in my room. have no idea if they were old or what not. warmth could have been an issue house is only around 70 atm. I'll take your advice and wait and see what happens

my bean beetles reproduced at 70 - just slower than they are now that the temps are higher

So I've put the bugs ontop of the light hood to warm em up a bit. Low and behold, by tonight had a lone weevil at the top of the cup. So maybe there is hope it will repopulate
