I have a clutch of veiled eggs that have just started to hatch. I never thought they would actually hatch but I humored my daughter and researched the care of eggs and went ahead with it. Well so far 3 have hatched and 4 more are pipping and others are sweating. I have set up an enclosure for the little ones and have some pinheads, mini meal worms and flightless fruit flies. When it comes to lighting the cage, what types of bulbs are you using and for how long? Do you do it the same as the adults? Also I am intrigued by the various colors these ones are already displaying. Any suggestions and recommendations are welcome

Use any bulb that will get you a target temp of 80ish degrees Fahrenheit. The heat that the bulb produces depends on where you live, so not all recommendations will work. Use a 5.0 UVB bulb that will be in the effective range of 6-9 inches from the basking spots. Make sure that you have several basking spots, lots of hiding places, and adequate space for each and every baby. @jannb @kinyonga and some others can help you with this, they know a lot about incubation and veileds. Good Luck! (Ditch the mealworms, they will cause impaction)

Congrats on your babies. Baby veileds are so cute and so much fun. Here’s how I housed my babies and in south Florida I didn’t need a basking light but you will want to keep their temps 80 to no more than 82. Babies can over heat quickly.
