Baby Jackson Chameleon Fell

My baby Jackson chameleon was startled by my younger sibling and jumped of the side of his cage from four feet up. Gave me a huge scare as when he fell he was curled up on the ground and completely dark. I started freaking out because I thought he was dead but I put my finger by his foot and he grabbed it tightly and put all his other legs on my finger. I picked him up and put him on a sturdy branch and he is still dark and is hiding. He won't move anything but his eyes. I examined him and he doesn't look injured at all but he won't move. Is he just scared? I know now not to let my brother near the chameleon unsupervised.

He probably just sustained some bruises if anything, but I would watch him for the next few days for any abnormal behavior.

what did he fall onto? carpet, hardwood, bounced off a few things on the way down? I have heard that they can withstand a pretty good fall onto something with a little give...

Odds are he is okay. Their natural response is to freeze after leaping off a branch. That leaping off into space is a defense response as is staying still after hitting the ground. They want to trick the predator into thinking they are just a leaf that fell out of the tree. Leaves don't get up and run away, so they stay still.

It is also possible that he has hurt himself. My worry would be he did internal injuries to his lungs. Only time will tell. If it makes you feel any better, today I opened a door of an cage of baby quads and didn't see one that was leaning on the door. He fell on the hardwood floor. He seems fine but he might not be. I expect him to be fine.

If he still eats n poop normal then u should be lucky to have him back, otherwise,a vet check n xray will be more safe on ur cham.

How's your baby doing today? Is he eating and moving OK? Any bruising? Or did he "bounce" back just fine?
