herptivite for example has no vit a.
which is not necessarily a bad thing I used NO preformed vitamin A for a decade and kept long lived healthy breeding animals.

Each to their own. I don't doubt your experience. Hats off to you for pulling it off with excellent gutloading. It is possible as you have demonstrated and experienced but it is unnecessary and more difficult. I tried twice with herptivite only and the product failed me twice miserably. The first time it cost me hundreds of panther chameleon eggs. The second time was more easily corrected- eye problems that did not respond to vet antibiotic ointment but cleared up within a few days of oral vit a.

In this case, herptivite would in fact not be an expected solution if the problem is inadequate vit a from the mother...

If infact vit a is the problem a suggestion I would like to putout to help with tthis in the futur I have had good results using repashy superpig in my gutload. It has performed and a huge list of caratnoids its labeled as a colour enhancer which I don't know if it helps with colour forsure but my guys all look really good so it may help a bit but I use it more becouse of what it contains not what it says it does lol. Hope this will help in the future.

you said reptivite 2x per week and vitamin 1x per week. Reptivite is a vitamin. It has d3 and a. It has a yellow label with a jacksons chameleon on it. Make sure you are using this product and not something else. herptivite for example has no vit a.

Good luck to you.
I use reptivite twice a week with D3 and calcium 3 times a week without d3. There is so many different opitions on the dusting when it comes to chameleons its overwhelming. My vet told me to dust only once a week with vitamins but I know a breeder that uses repashy vit dust with calcium everyday on his crickets and he does well. I thought that might be way too toxic on the organs. I also use silk horns mostly which are amazing for them. I sell them as well along with other bugs such as horns, butter and wax. My chameleons are spoiled :)

did the babies survive chameleongalore?

They are still hanging in there and a couple started opening their eyes. I have alot of medical supplies since I have so many and my vet is great for helping me out so I actually took a syringe and held the needle side ways to open their months so I could get some vitamins ( specially vit A and D3 with calcium) in their mouths and I will do that twice a day. This is my only hope, keeping my fingers crossed. On the good side, another batch started hatching today.

Thank you for your help. I'm confused with the Repashy product, had a few people that love it and one breeder told me he lost all 8 adults do to overdose on that product but the one thats happy with it uses it everyday. I think using D3 more than once a week is harmful to their organs, well at least thats what my vet told me.

I wasn't going to sit there and let these little guys die from starvation so I ended up taking a syringe and using the needle side ways to open thei mouth so I can give them Vit A ( beta careten forn), vit d3 and calcium liquid and vitamins. i'm crossing my fingers, this is a new technique for me but I though it was pretty awesome. They won't drink when I spray them with vitamin water so I had to do something. On the other hand, another batch started hatching. Another problem I've had is losing panthers at 7/8 month mark. The eggs shrink and the babies don't make it out and sufficate. It breaks my heart so I have to change something. I have over 800 eggs going and over 350 are panthers. I'm trying 4 different incubation techniques and i'm using repashy superhatch for a few of the batches. I have over 50 adult breeders and I'm very passionate about my business. I feed my chameleon silk worms mostly as I sell quality bugs here in Calgary so I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I hope this year is better, expecting over 500 babies in the spring.

chameleongalore - any change?
The babies are still hanging in there but I came up with a great idea. I sprayes the babies with liquid vitamins and they won't open their mouths so I took a syringe and I used the needle sideways to force open their mouths so I can give them some vitamins. Most of them just open their mouth automatically so I'm not hurting them in anyway. This gives me hope, its better than letting them die. I'm crossing my fingers, I have a good feeling about it. On the other hand, another batch hatched :) The two female nosey be girls are doing great, they are both my biggest females and one is very aggresive. What did you do for incubation? I lost alot of batches at 7 months, the eggs got smaller and the babies never came out so they sufficated. It breaks my heart when that happens. I'm using 4 different incubation techniques now some with diapause and using repashy superhatch. Any advice would be so appreciated. I feed my chams mostly silks, horns, butter and some crickets so I don't understand why I'm having some issues with the babies. I think I have to dust more, or it was genetic.

I'm sorry you're having issues with your new hatchlings!

How long ago did they hatch?

They hatched 5 days ago. I'm force feeding them liquid vitamins with calcium and d3 by using a needle from a syringe. Its working really well, most of them just open their mouths. I wasn't going to stand there to see them die. They wouldn't drink when I misted them. I will keep everyone posted.

im sooo glad to hear some of them are starting to open their eyes! and kudos to you for the idea on how to force feed em!! you are obviously a very dedicated cham owner and breeder :) cant wait to hopefully keep hearing good news about all these little babies :D
what kind of babies just hatched, i read that you had another clutch hatch?

I ment to Email you, we are moving to Vancouver Island in the next couple months, possibly Victoria but not sure yet. Very excited, going to run my breeding business there and hired someone to do it in Calgary as well.

I missed this when I was scanning the thread before! It will be nice to have another chameleon person on the island :) Double so since I no longer breed but still so many people contact me - there are a few breeders around but they dont keep up with demand - now I'll know another person they can consider.

glad they're hanging in there.
You might try the vitamins on half and bug juice on the other half. Its not clear (is it?) that vitamin deficiency is the issue?

I think repashy calcium plus is fine for using once a week, but i wouldnt (and do not) use it more than that (assuming one is offering a range of well gutloaded prey and using good UVB tubes or outdoor sun).

that's terrible :( something to do with the medium maybe? Too damp maybe?

These are veileds and another veilds batch hatches plus two babies cracked their eggs from nosey mitsio/ambilobe panthers. it's been a busy week for chameleons galore. Four females layes eggs, 3 mated and 3 clutches started hatching.

Its a huge passion of mine, been doing it for 10 years and now I;m also opening a company supplying quality worms such as silk worms, horns, pheonie, butter, wax and supers I will be shipping these as well as soon as I get a fed ex account. We are relocating from Calgary to Vancouver Island and I'm running both locations. Many babies on the way,lol

I lost alot of batches at 7 months, the eggs got smaller and the babies never came out so they sufficated.

This is almost always inadequate nutrition or supplementation of the mother.

IMO the problems the babies are having now is very much related to cause of the other hatch failure.

Chameleon eggs are generally very forgiving when it comes to moisture content, temperatures during incubation, medium used, etc.

They are very unforgiving when it comes to lack of vit a in the mother. As I related earlier in this thread with my experience loosing several hundred panther chameleon eggs when I gave it up for beta carotene.
