Helllo ya all!!

Smiley s at my friend home for 3 months. I just moved into my new house last June, so busy with my room and life. I set up a space for him in my bedroom next to my bed.

Got lotta leftover woods, took it to the woodshop nearby which s like 3 mins walk from my home. He made it and look good! Pay him 40 buck. I painted it with brown and lime green. Did lotta overcoat with latex/gloss. Bought 4 spray can which prevent waterproof or cracks from the wood/metal/pipe or else. Its black and sprayed inside the box.

Will put Smiley crib cage on top of it, which s wire mesh.Easy for water to go thru down.

Just install the curve track on ceiling for blackout curtain which Ill upload those pixs soon. Cant wait to have Smiley move in next week after he done with his shedding yea. :)

great looking cage.. are you shure that its ok to spray the inside of the cage like that? it can be toxic.. not really shure but maybe someone else will let us know if its toxic or not?

phase: First off He said it's a stand not a cage. Next is something I hear on the forums all the time, wondering if paint is toxic. Let's see the inside of your refrigerator is painted, so is the top of your stove and even inside the oven that get's really hot. Have any of you died from those yet. If those haven't killed you how about the paint on your bedroom walls? Regardless how nasty the paint is wet once it cures (no more smell) unless your eating it, it should be safe.

YES SIR

stand..fixed

spray paint still has fumes for a while after dry so i was wondering if it was safe for a cham. it a simple question man.

I never said anything about paint drying, I said when it had cured. You answered your own question when you said you could still smell the fumes. Paint can be dry to the touch with out being completely dry (cured). It's really simple when you can't smell any remaining fumes it's going to be safe.

Your stove top and such are powder coated, follow manufacturers dry times, and even then im sure there are products that could still be harmfull. Use good judgement and pick products that are meant to be used around house/kids and such and youll be ok.

Looks good, i see you have it right next to your bed hehe. You must really love your cham!

Just because your human nose (people have a pretty inferior sense of smell) cant smell it doesnt mean it isnt still off-gassing.

also the chameleon nose is like 100times more sensative than a human nose. i want to spray paint some stuff but im worried that this may be bad for the cham.

Will take him to vet visit for 1st time, any qq tha I should ask?

Thanks

sandra: your absolutely right about paint of-gassing which of course once it's fully cured it no longer does. The human nose is not the best equipped instrument but it's all that most of us have. So that coupled with 30+ years painting experience allows me to make a fairly educated guess. I recently painted a corroded aluminum screen cage with several coats of oil based paint. I left it outside in the sun 80+ degrees for 2 weeks before I used the cage again.

phase: you mention that a cham's nose is 100 times more sensitive than a humans I've never heard that where did you get that info from. Although back to sandra's comment if the drying paint fumes are bad for the cham it doesn't matter if it can smell them or not.

snake: your right there are a lot of painted things out there that are powder coated. The thing is powder coating is very similar to paint except for the vehicle, solvents and of course the application.

At the end of the day most of you that are going to be painting are going to be using a water based paint with a very low VOC. I live in the greater Los Angeles area we are the test bed for the entire USA, we have the most restrictive laws in the nation. Their shooting for 0 VOC's and we have some wall paints that are just that. So the only of-gassing they do is water vapor!
They still do smell like paint though.
