Are Vacations Impossible?

How do you guys manage to take any longer than a day or two away from home? Do you rely on someone to come feed your cham, or just overfeed him the day before?

I am going to be in California for a few days this week, his lights are on a timer, and his humidifier is on a separate timer to run every 2.5 hours. But what about misting, feeding, and just general supervison? I thought about hooking up my webcam and pointing it at his cage, so I can check in on him when I am in CA.

I can't see any way of leaving town without having someone come to my house everyday? What do you guys do?

I would get a friend or neighbor to come over and mist and check on everyone while you are gone and maybe feed depending on the age of your chams and how long you will be gone. I am very lucky to have a wonderful house/pet sitter.

My cham is about 4 months now, he's eating 10 crix every morning and that's it.

I guesss I gotta get a family member to do me a favor.

We get a friend to come by and check on everybody. It's hard for us to take a vacation because I don't like to give someone the responsibility of caring for the 20 Chameleons we have especally if there are new hatchlings which need more frequent mistings .

If you only have one or twp Chameleons I imagine of would be easier to get someone to watch them or you could even bring them over to a friends house to be cared for while your gone.

When my fiance and i went away i had a friend stay at our house foor the week.

i have been training my friend to do it and as a incentive i give him 20 a day to make things perfect.. and thats with timers on everything, humidfier set, and a mistking on every cage, i still hate leaving... LOL

Water must be provided every day, so yes you have to have a pet sitter - even if you have an automated watering/misting system it should be checked on every few days to verify it is functioning.
An adult can go without food for a week if necessary, but since someone has to water, they may as well feed also!

I have "trained" a few friends and relatives to look after mine. I leave my visa number or blank cheque and vet phone number. I leave "easy" feeders (superworms, butterworms, stick bugs, and other stuff that non-bug handlers can easily handle). I typically dont ask pet sitters to dust feeders. I over feed my bug colonies so that they can last a week without me. I never leave home for more than a week!

Last summer I was able to leave for a couple of weeks thanks to a wonderful sister in law who was between jobs so she could care for the animals.

Normally we only leave for 3 days tops and when we leave everything is in tip-top shape and plenty of food.

I've been known to drive several hours down to the beach with family, stay a couple days leave the wife and kids and extended family at the beach while I drive home to spend an evening, a day and a morning in the middle of the week caring for the animals, and then drive back to the beach to spend the last couple days of the week with the family before driving home again at the end.

I've done this a couple of times. Most of the time we just plan "short" vacations, but might do it several times a year...
