Anyone into making Chamaeleon art, carvings, gardening etc?

I knew you'd appreciate that, I've been sitting on this project for a couple years lol. Not showing anyone my secret stolen table photos lmao. If I have to give stolen ideas away to someone who might help me I'm all in ;). Shhhhhh
I'm still out a month as my trash cans are full from yesterday's mess :) my neighbors aren't happy as I took their room lol. But I'll message you so I can start my planning. I've been planning for yrs so what's another month right :)
Thank you and again and I love your work, I'm not sure what kinda finish I would need. It couldn't be to thick do to the leg design. But having a design or colored insert running through it would be over the top...
The finish on the table you posted was an oil finish and what most people consider to be a “natural finish”. To get the legs right and the river inlay your going to need a router($75) and chisel set(25), complete sandpaper set. Looks like a 1.5” slab of black walnut in the pic but you need one thicker, like 2”, to give you the extra thickness needed to get to the finished thickness after all the work is done.

I recommend a simple, understated design for the inlay. Go as big as you want butI find the tend to go over the best when marketing. You want the inlay to complement the wood, not over power it. 64100280-A34C-43D8-9E84-30BE2E614694.jpeg B62BD3F8-A57E-466D-B74F-01E8714475E0.jpeg FF85F2AC-D665-4268-9288-F1481D70D2A1.jpeg

I've got all the tools, from routers to bandsaws etc. I kinda fade in and out of hobbies :/ I have more tools than what I need. Selling some this afternoon matter fact, drill press & tabletop belt-sander w/side disc, I need room ugh. You're correct it's 1 1/2in. So I'll be going back to the drawing board if it needs to be thicker, not an issue. Thanks for the advice! Just have to search around and save a couple more bucks. (Add another month) lol. I've been waiting this long so who cares, I still have to find a few more wrenches. Now I'm thinking like vines/leaves and maybe a Chamaeleon inlaid. Ugh what have I started, add another month :)

No you absolutely can use 1.5” to start if that’s what you have. Just know your finished product will be closer to 1- 1/4” finished...

complete waste of 30 min lol...
No everything helps, I need some of that info, if not someone else will use it lol. I owe you sorry,.,.
I see what you're saying about with the dept factor and possibly the look of the of fold/pinch. I believe you're correct but I'm not expert like you.

I haven't forgot my promise :)
I'm juggling (new job/home/life) plus I've been building a new 6'x3'ft cage outside and finishing an indoor one... ugh.
I'm in a single car garage with no power, when I had a 3 car so I'm crowded :( gotta love extension cords.
I had to order the hardening clay and come up with an idea, plus locate/buy items I'll be need as I haven't carved in 15+yrs. I've decided cut/carve/sand/grind a skeleton forearm/hand from scratch, each piece individually ugh. I used a hand patten so I could somewhat cut to size but then everything else is hand done (pun intended) I liked how our member (the hippie) was holding her chameleon above, so I'll position somewhat the same way all the while holding a sleeping Panther instead of a Vailed while he's in his full colors, easier reference as that what I have now. I decided to go with a local tree I found, a Blue Eucalyptus. Never used it before so I chainsawed off a chunk lol. I'm finding out that that was a mistake as it's harder than a rock and seems to take forever to carve/sand ugh. Just doing a half length Radius bone took about 5+ hrs, my lungs hurt :/
I'll make the arm/hand, then I'll figure out the base. Then I'll wire frame the Cham on the hand, then remove & cover with clay/carve him so I can move it around, then paint & mount for completion. I need to see if I still have a airbrush/compressor or if I lost that in the fire to. I sure don't want to spend another 5hun on another set, so fingers crossed, that or I'll contact someone lol......

When completed I'm calling it "Dead Asleep".

I can see this is going to take me a bit so bear with me, I'm sorry. Life I guess, I'll post as it comes along.
Here's what I'm starting with and where I'm at. Tks
