My 1yr old panther has has loose skin and looked dull for almost three weeks now and I'm waiting on that shed....is there anything I can do to help him out like a warm shower or something? It's just BEGGING to pop and it's looked like this for almost 3 weeks it's driving me crazy! lol:p

It isnt a good idea to pull off the shedding skin. Either spray him with warm water or just let it fall of by its self!

Definitely don't try to remove the shed yourself. Mist with warm water, and if there is any persistent shed use a q tip with warm water and gently roll it back and forth on shed until it comes off, but don't be too persistent or you can irritate the scales.

I definitely know not to pull of the skin...thanks guys! But, what I mean is, he hasn't ACTUALLY started shedding yet, he's just been really dull and wrinkly for almost 3 weeks he usually will have shed already and doesn't usually stay this dull for this long and I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to help him get started buy giving him a warm shower or something like that?

:D Hello. I'm by no means an expert. I'm very new but, do have a few suggestion you could try. First increase misting and make sure you see him drink. Have read hydration is very important to help shed. But make sure it still dries out between mistings and at night. You could also try feeding hornworms/silkworms. They are great for them and, will help with hydration. Only other thing is maybe 1-2 warm showers a day. Is your humidity on higher or lower end.?
But really, I think it will just take patience. If all your husbandry is right then he'll shed when he's ready. :D

He's been getting quite a few hornworms lately along with crickets (trying to feed them off before they are gigantic) and He gets misted either in his cage at 7, 11, and 3 o'clock 5 min. each by my mist king or I take him outside and shower him in his tree for 30-40 min and he drinks really well. OH and humidity in his cage never gets bleow 40 % and spikes at about 60% with the mistings and humidifier. So maybe I could try a warm shower..he's never actually had one before so I'm nervous to try one lol But, we can try and hope for the best! He's just never taken this long to shed and he's so wrinkly and dull! Maybe now that he's an adult he maybe takes longer to get it done?

I think running a mistking and a humidifier is a bit overkill, especially seeing you're from cali. You don't want to cause a respiratory infection. If anything just up his mist schedule to about 4 times a day at 3 minutes each misting.

And 60% seems super low for having a mistking/humidifier. Mine spikes up to about 75-80% after a good mist then stays around 50-60% between each mist. Each mist is done when everything is completely dry. He is 1 year old, which i know chams take allot longer to shed when they're adults and don't do a complete shed like they used to.

I think you dry your cage out too long, so up your mistings to about 4 times to help him out. It's good that your cham drinks allot, glad he's staying hydrated. Is his feces looking normal aswell? White urate/black stool?

okay will up his schedual to four times a day. I think my hygrometer is not accurate to be honest with you, I haven't been able to find one that is yet:eek: His feces is normal looking and he is eating and not thin or anything. He's very active and doing well, it's just this shed thing I'm trying to figure out since I'm used to him doing it so fast usually.
