Any one know anything about orchids?

Ok so here is my story my sister bought this sick orchid from wal mart in 04 and brought it back to health then gave it to my mom in 05 then she passed away. then my mom gave it to my aunt who had breast cancer. she got really sick this year and also passed away so when we were moving her stuff out we found this sick orchid that has alot of sentimental value and we dont wanna let it go how could we bring this thing back to health

that plant looks like it might be too far gone. Incorrect potting and the roots look really dehydrated. Google orchic rescue for more information.

it's possible to save a phal from just roots but I've only done it once and it was pure luck, as I had just set it aside in the misting area and it came back pretty much on it's own. If there are any green tips on those roots it might come back.

I know that this may sound silly but there is a place near me that will take your orchid when it is not in bloom and take the necessary steps to be sure that it blooms the next year and call you so you can enjoy the bloom and you pick it up. maybe if there is a large grower near you that does this aswell. They charge a small fee at this place but maybe someone like that could bring it back to life for you then you would be able to get the plant back healthy and maintain it on your own. Its like orchid babysitting if not maybe they could even give you the advice that would help.
