Aggression

Hi
Can anyone tell me what is the average age for panther males to become aggressive, if they're going to?
I've been told that they're all friendly as babies but get aggressive as they grow up, is this true?
Is there an age to be more wary of buying?
Thanks :)

Hi,

Personally i havent kept so many panthers to have an own statistic about it! But first, its need to be clear what "agression" or "agressive" means. (just for be precise)

Agression is a normal animal (or human too) behaviour, wich means that the individuals in the same species are less likely have each others companion. A part of it for ex.: food competition or the territorial behaviour. Chameleons are territorial animals, from their hatch, but the joung ones can be housed together, about the age of 3 months or so.

The agressiveness is a bit different thing. An animal can be agressive with any other species too. Just think about a dog when loudly barking at the postMAN ! :D
If you buy an animal in a young age, it have more time to get acclimatized to the handling, so the natural habits can be formed for a while :)

I hope you get the answer, but more experienced keepers are here to speak up :D

Greetings

As far as aggressive, I am guessing you are talking about mean? Getting a "friendly" chameleon is really luck of the draw. They can be agrressive/unfriendly at any age. Some members have chams who mellow out the longer they own them, and some have ones who puff up and hiss at the sight of them. It really depends on the chameleon itself and its individual personality, just like a dog or bird or any other pet. And babies can be very mean also, so not sure where you heard that they get nice when they grow up!!

It is really more about each Cham's "personality" or should I say "tolerance" some are freindly and do not mind handling... others are not so nice and do not tolerate human interaction & handling well at all. When you purchase a Chameleon you must be aware that there is NO WAY to tell what you will or won't end up with and you must be willing to deal with either senario after all you are purchasing an animal that by nature is solitary & naturally perfers not to be bothered.
If you want a pet that you know is going to be freindly or that you know you are going to be able to acclimate to your interaction than a Chameleon is likely not the best choice for you.... best of luck in your decision. :p
