Aggression in cage only

Is it normal for a cham to show aggression in its cage, but be fine outside?

He has never shown any aggression before but since his recent vets visit he has been difficult to get out of the cage, puffing up, hissing and striking out, although he hasnt come near biting. Once out of the cage he is lovely, currently sat on my shoulder watching tv I can pick him up to move/handle him with no problems

A lot of chams feel the need to protect their turf. That is why a lot of people take chams out on a stick. Out of the cage they have no need to protect their turf.jmo

I agree with Laurie. My veiled certainly knows that his plant is his home. If he is off of it he has no problem being friendly but if I attempt to reach for him or move him off of one of his leaves he certainly doesn't like it.

ditto! My cham is a doll when out of his cage. But he will let me go in his cage also and fix his branches, adjust his dripper, etc with no fear or aggression. It is just when I would go to approach him quickly(which I have learned not to) and corner him that he gets a little pissy! Even when he comes out on his door he wants you to take him to a new place! My husband came home from work and he walked by the cage(we have ours in a traffic area, believe it or not) and he reached out for my husbands shoulder to climb on as he was walking by!
