Hi, I got my veiled chameleon 2 days ago. He’s about 2 months old. Is it normal to be so scared in the first week? Everytime I go up to his cage he runs and hides in his corner. I try to put a container with crickets up to him he’s not interested he has ate on his own hunting though so I’m happy about that. He also has been drinking to thankfully. Will he always be afraid or will he open up? I just don’t want him to be scared. I also have the ubv coil light I got from the chameleon kit. I now know that’s not ok for chameleons but I can’t get the linear 5.0 until I get payed on Friday today is Sunday. Is that too long for the light to be in there before I get the right one?

Okay so it's good that you took the moss out. The bulb isn't the best but for right now it's okay get the tub asap. Do you have the medium reptile breeze kit? You re going to want to provide more hide space towards the front of your enclosures most of you foliage is in the back so he s bound to run into the back coroners to get away.
Yes I do have the medium reptibreeze chameleon kit. And I should put more leaves on the sides or on like the door of the enclosure?
Hi there and welcome. So yes the enclosure is set up incorrectly. You can take that ball thing out. I would add a feeder run or a cup for the feeders and attach it in the cage where he can easily get to it.
Yes, he will run and he will be afraid. This is their normal behavior. The sooner your cage is set up properly the more comfortable he will be. You will need to have a 2x2x4foot cage by the time he is 6 months old.
As far as the lighting your fine for another week until you get paid.

Okay thank you! So to set it up correctly I should take the ladder out, and put a feeder cup in and get the light this week anything else? I want it perfect for my little guy
I would go to the chameleon academy link and start reading through everything. This will give you a good basic and accurate understanding of their needs.
I read the articles and i think it’s good! I’m gonna get some live plants and a feeder fish when I go get the new light. Thanks for all the help!

Just make sure he doesnt burn himself from being that close to the bulb! Looks better though !!!

Hello I’ve just made a account I recently bought a veiled chameleon from PetSmart I got everything for him but i was wondering about handling I’ve heard that it’s not safe for chameleons to be help because of stress but almost any time I put my hand in the cage whether it’s to put crickets in there or to water the plants he will usually climb on my hand if I move slow and I won’t even try to hold him sometimes I was wondering if this was ok or Normal for some chameleons I’ve only had him for a short time too so it’s strange to me

I feed small crickets about 12 spreaded our two times a day one around 10am a few hours after the lights turn on and 6 around 6 about 2 hours before his lights turn off I handle him maybe 10-30 min a day I heard handling early on in life for them helps create a bond so they will tolerate being handled when they get older
I spray his cage two or three times a day for watering I let him drink from the leaves I have live plants in his cage nothing artificial hasn’t been tested for any diseases that I’m aware of the worker never told me
My cage is screen
Dimensions 2x3x2.5 right now because he’s a baby
I don’t know the brand of lighting but I have a ubv long lamp and a 60watt heat lamp
My temperature range is 68-79 degrees F
I have live plants I have a small tree some flowers and some little grass plants I can take pictures the cage is placed in my room and is higher than any object in my room
Is not next to anything except my school books and some pictures
