Acting funny

Here is a pic of his enclosure! All of my other enclosures are similar. I'm goint to keep him in the bird cage til I get him to the vet. So he doesn't get hurt. Is there something I should change though to prevent this for my other chams? Does it come on quick like that or could he have eatten a poisonous bug? I had one of his plants outside for a few days, then two days ago put it back in his enclosure.

Well I got him in and put a light blanket over the cage for the night. He went to sleep. It is early for him but I don't want him to suffer. He will see the vet tomorrow. I will let you guy know what he says. I just hope that it's not something that I could have prevented. I feel horrible for him. I thought that I did all the right research and bought everything he needs. I'm not sure what to do. Should I dust with Calcium everyday instead of every other? His UBV bulb in only 3 months old, but I'm going to get a new one tomorrow.
 
Sometimes certain chameleons are just prone to it even when given the correct supplementation. Kingyongia gave good advice about the liquid calcium. I usually give just like one drop. You should be able to get some at cvs or another drug store. The vet will be able give an injection that is quicker than the liquid, but the liquid is definitely quicker than the powder. I am really routing for him :(
 
Sarah, I am so sorry to hear that Kermit in not well. I'm glad you were able to get him into the vet tomorrow. At 5 1/2 months I would still dust with plain calcium everyday and make sure you are gutloading your feeders well. Use calcium with d3 twice a month and a multi vit. once or twice a month. Keep us update on the vet visit.
 
I got the calcium but couldn't get him to open his mouth to drop some in. I am just completely heartbroken. I thought I was doing everything right for him. The only thing I can figure is I have a piece of plastic reptile leafy stuff hanging from the hook for the hanging plant, and that's where he hangs out most of the time. But today I relized that the UVB is almost completely blocked by it. I moved the light at the top. It hits the whole cage but where he always hangs out. I will update after the vet tomorrow.
 
If you do it very carefully so you don't damage/bruise his lips or gums, you can ease a little liquid calcium just inside his lower jaw between the lips and the gums..or if you can get him to drink by dripping water on his nose, you can ease a little in while his mouth is opening and shutting.

He should be able to be given injections of calcium until his blood calcium levels are high enough and then be given a shot of calcitonin to draw the calcium quickly back into the bones.

With corrections made to his supplements/husbandry so that the bone issues will not recur, he could still live a pretty long life.

We just made it back from the vet. Kermit does have MBD. Beaker (his brother) is starting to show early signs of MBD. Kermit got injection an I am to give Kermit and Beaker liquid calcium everyday for two weeks. I got to take Kermit back in for another injection on friday. Then he is going to see both of them back in two weeks. My Nosy Falys are perfectly healthy. The vet looked at pictures of my enclosures and the only thing he thought was maybe the UVB wasn't passing through to him where he spends his time. He also said that it can be from over feeding and high temps while they are growing. It causes them to grow faster than their bodys can absorb the calcium. Which is what he thought was more of the problem with them. I always by bulk crickets and let them eat as much as they could the first half of the day. He said now that my panthers are 3 months to limit them to 10 crickets a day. Either way I hope Kermit recovers.

I lost my most beloved chameleon a few months ago, I had him for years with out any changes in his cage or anything else. He became acutely ill, I had him rushed to amazing chameleon breeders that are tops and highly regarded in this industry, and in spite of this he passed (very quickly). because of who we are as people, in general I would have to say that people come to this forum, take the time to continually increase their knowledge on chameleon husbandry because they are dxtremely passionate about how they care for their charges. Once the crisis period is over, logically what I had to remind myself is that, in the end no matter how well we care for these amazing creatures, they are exotic animals. They also don't make the task any easier by compensating as a protective mechanism, not showing they are sick until what ever is going on is quite advanced. All we can do is our very best, as obviously you have. We are feeling this with you, hope your guy pulls through and know that you are going above and beyond, lucky to have you as him mommy. I have been a nurse for many years, and at times that is all you can do and give the rest to you know who.

Thank you! I have been crying all morning. I just went and cut the legs off some crickets so I can put them in a very shallow dish. I'm hoping Kermit can eat them from there. He has always been shy about eatting. I was amazed when he opened his mouth for me the put the calcium just a bit ago. Beakers calcium I put on the back of a cricket and he ate it. I hope they can both get through this.

sorry to hear this..its really sad..from the first post i just read through it all..i could tell it was mbd..chams usually hide how sick they are till its real bad..hopefully you can save them both by providing some extra calcium in the diet..

Beaker seems like he is completely fine now. I will continue to put the liquid calcium on the crickets til he goes back to the vet. Kermit is improving. His arms seem much stronger. I still have him in the small cage with the towel. But I can put him on a branch and he can hold on for awhile. If he falls it's only a couple inches to the towel. Then he crawls over and tries to climb the pot repeatively til I put him back up on the branch. Yesterday I had to force feed him. I didn't like squeezing the guts out of the crickets but I did. Today he was still mad at me from yesterday. So when he tried to bite me, I snuck in a couple whole crickets with the liquid calcium on them. It worked for three then he figured out my plan and wouldn't open his mouth. I have been getting them both natural sunlight. Hopefully I can order the UVB meter and check the levels in all cages.
 
Well yesterday I had to force feed Kermit again. He has never been one to eat in front of me. Today he is moving around again pretty good. So I tried ripping the legs off some more cricket. They can still move around but not jump. Here is a picture of Kermit holding on to the plant after I placed him up there.
