A new addition to the kingdom

Just got a very tiny, male high turquiose veiled baby cham to add to my collection.
This little fella is only about 1 1/2'', which makes him the smallest cham I have
ever had to provide for.
He went from his baby cage, with siblings, to his first home all to himself :)

Everything is so new to him, so he is very inquizative and full of energy.

At this stage, everything freaks him out! He was terrified of the dripper I
installed, so I will have to just mist him instead.

His name is Smidget, after my panther Nosy Be, who died very suddenly and
mysteriously a few months ago.

My thanks to camimom, the breeder, who was kind enough to deliver him to me, her being a
fellow Marylander.
She is very nice, and we talked a good while. I enjoyed her visit very much.

I dont know what camera you used, but you need to come use it on Smidgets siblings that are left!

I love the last picture of him. He looks awesome.

I know you will be very pleased with how he turns out.

:D

Congrats on your new baby! He is absolutely adorable.

I am so very sorry to hear about Smidget passing away. That's so sad. :(

Best of luck with your new little one! I remember when Zaphod was that small, and if I knew any better then, I would have been so petrified caring for one that small! Now, I wouldn't want to start with them any older!!! :D Great photos and he is already amazing!

Great work Camimom!

Thanks, it's a Canon 50D DSLR.

He actually surprised me and didn't freak out when I took the pics.

It's great to start so young, because they can get used to stuff early on.

Joyce will be home tonight and I'm sure she will fall in love with this little guy
too. :)

Still has not eaten yet (that I know of). Only thing I have, and baby dubia
I put in his feeding cup.
They are perfect size, but I don't think he recognizes them as a food item yet!?
Just got my order of pins and they are way too small, I forgot just how tiny
those are!! so I'm stuffing them with goodies to make them grow :)

Should have my Hydei ff's tomorrow.

Thanks Jann.
There was no accounting for it whatever! I just found him lying on the cage floor, dead one morning. It turned out to be a Saturday, so I didn't have to
go to work, I would not have made it in otherwise.
He was perfectly healthy and feisty the day before.

Consequently, I threw EVERYTHING away! the feeders, all the supplements,
the Repashy stuff, all tossed in a paranoid frenzy!! I even threw out all the
cage furnishings and cleaned it with 12% peroxide!!

So I am using his name for my new baby :)

I love turquoise color, and camimom's sire looks fantastic.

She'll love him! its impossible not to.

He wont freak with cameras, i took them all the time of them.
ANd yea he probably doesnt recognize the roaches as food. I dont keep them as no one likes to eat them.

I cant wait to see him grow up, but then you almost want them to stay that smal forever.

I hope I get my hydei ff's today, he still will not eat the little roaches !

All the cricks are either too big, or too little!!

Had I been really smart, I would have prepared for this in advance, but no! :(

At least he is acting peaceful and chilled. Just sitting on a leaf, staring at me :)

You might try getting a few feeders from Jessicia. I would think he should be eating 1/4 inch crickets by now.....probably around 15 to 20 a day.I only used FF the first couple of weeks after they hatched and right from the start they had crickets along with the FF.

Gee, I dont know Jann, he is really tiny! my pics make him look as large as
Godzilla, but he is really only about an inch and a half long, when he is on
a leaf, his little weight doesnt even bend it

A crick 1/4'' would be pretty big, besides, it will take a few days to get some
that size, and he is used to the hydei's from camimom.

If she's only feeding FF maybe that's why he's not growing. Here's my babies at 10 weeks old. Is your little guy about that same age? https://www.chameleonforums.com/new-luie-camille-baby-pictures-42233/

You might get a better idea of their size with a video. They are 8 weeks old here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN9_ZcbQHBM&list=UUQ0-BXKaSumOoRdvTs-MQNg&index=40

Here's one at 6 weeks old on my hand for size comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MzulorMdTE&list=UUQ0-BXKaSumOoRdvTs-MQNg&index=42

I wasnt only feeding hydeis.

I used crickets as well.

THis guy hatched on Xmas Eve.

I offered as much food as everyone would eat. I just simply cant keep them all outside all the time.

Im sure now that hes in a cage by himself he will grow alot faster.

I offered fruit flies as well as crickets, they just werent as interestd in the crickets. size didnt seem to matter at all.

Well, he seems comfortable in his new home, and does not have to compete for food, so he can pig-out to his hearts content :D

I can imagin him going for the ff's, as they move around fast, and I will have those in the mail today.
I also have some cricks his size coming from Armstrongs.

I just want to get some food in him, he sits there, staring at me, all hungry,
and I cant do anything!! :(

Well if your gf is back in town, you can have her come gets a few crix from me if you want. or a jar of ff to hold him over.

I can only tell from the video, since I have a size comparision, my little guy is at least half that size smaller.
But my guy is from a whole different climate.
That may have something to do with it. We have very brief time of year when
our animals can be taken outside here in MD.
The rest of the year is too cold, so I can imagine a cham this age being larger if raised in S.FL or Calif. so they would likely have a heartier appitite.

She is back, but came home so late.
Dont know if she saw him this morning, since I was out the door well before
she got up.
Guess I will find out when I get home, but she will likely feed him the ff's we got in the mail today if she gets home before me.
I did at least tell her half the story

Haha.

Im sure he will grow just fine and be big and beautiful just like his daddy.

Add the sun, and his own space. he will be good.

I am so sorry to hear about Smidget......the new baby is adorable, congrats on getting such a cutie!

Thanks. The first Smidget would have been a nice blue Nosy Be by now :(

My new little guy is feasting on hydie's as I type, and he also ate a bb (blue
bottle fly, which was as wide as his head!!
That tells me he could likely tackle 1/4'' cricks, and these bb's gotta be about that!!??

He may be tiny, but he sure appears to be normal every other way.
I guess his name suites him after all

Let's see what happens in a month
