My 4 month old veiled does not like water either. I tried the shower method once and he just about had a heart attack. His eyes and urates look good though.
I saw him drink for the first time about two weeks ago. I was able to get him out of his cage and on a silk ficus tree for some nice sun outside, and I stood about 7 feet away with a spray bottle and used the spritz nozzle instead of the fine spray. I aimed it up in the air and the water arched and landed on the tree and I saw opening his mouth a little and at least tasting the water. Later that same day when he was back in his cage, I saw him attempting to drink drops from the MistKing's "rain" nozzle (mist nozzle a few inches above the screen, which creates about a 4" circle of rain drops). Even stranger, about an hour later, I saw him venture down towards the bottom of his cage where I have a drainage hole drilled out in the front corner. There is a "hair catching" screen that fits in the hole so nothing can escape. He saw the water drops at the bottom of the screen and it caught his eye and he climbed down and stuck his head into the hole and was drinking the water.
I told myself "this dummy managed to find the dirtiest water available to drink" but I had just cleaned the cage and the water was only dripping down fake vines (not percolating through soil) so I figured it wouldn't be too bad. I have seen him do that one other time.
As of now, I am going to be starting day 2 of a free range set up in my garage. I noticed he seemed pissed to be in his cage after spending a few hours in his silk ficus tree in the sun, so I figured he would be happiest living in that tree all the time. Now I just have to stick to telling my dog "MY LIZARD" when I get him out and show her. Although I have a feeling if she went up to him he would puff up and hiss and she would take 4 steps back, just like what happens when she corners a cat every now and then.
