I did something bad with a couple of the babies today. Nothing wrong with them, but I had dropped off a fecal yesterday to make sure everything was clean, for my special need ambanja, it is. I forgot to pay them so I ran over to do so.

The vet, who is still learning chameleons to take care of mine, wanted to see a baby so I carefully put 2 in a flip top carrier, inside a bath sheet with that in a box. Off they went on their first a trip to the vet. They were the hit of the vet office with all 3 vets and all the staff coming out to the lobby to see the little guys. Told you I live in a smaaaaaall town.

Babies are home and happy.:)

Laurie, I too live in a small town, and the first time I took my sambava to our local vet, 2 assistants and the receptionist came in to see him. I ran into one of the Assistants the other day, she heard I had eggs and put in her order for one of the babies!

Mostly I just wondered if what I did was really bad for the babies. I admit I do want people here to learn about chameleons, especially my new vet, but I was very careful to ensure the babies never got cold. Since the vet loved them maybe he will want to learn more about them. If it helps me sell a couple and get the hobby moving here so much the better, but I only took them to the vet, so do you think that was ok??

Lol, Havre MT....they have a vet there that will look at something besides cows and horses? We have a friend from there. :D

What you did was absolutely fine.
I had a chameleon shipped to me a few years ago and since the box said live reptile the driver was afraid to touch the box. I went to pick it up and drivers, office workers were so fascinated. Packages actually started arriving earlier than usual and I never had a problem again.
The more people we educate the better it is for the hobby as a whole..
Congrats and good luck with the babies..

Yes. And I think you are building up some good-will capital. Might help keep the vet bills low down the road. I am sure that the vets are glad to have you and your critters as a learning resource as well. How many other chameleons are within 100 miles, eh ? ;)

Jim I would guess none, there is nothing within 100 miles of me. It is 120 miles to Home depot!!! I have an excellent reptile vet but he is 5 hours away. However he consults with the vet here and is committed to helping me. I am working with the vet here to learn chameleons. I have bought him several books, etc. Also he had to put down "Lucky" who is the father of the babies hatching. He fell in love with Lucky and was amazed as I held him until he passed. He just couldn't believe his color. I know taking the babies was sort of off the wall but I want the vets office people to see and know what chameleons are so that when I need they they will at least try to be there for me. Since the other vet is so far away this is the best I can do, do you think it is ok and makes sense?

Any other ideas for the vet here? I want him to learn!!!!!

Good job! I did that too. :) Went to FedEx and they looked at me really strangely when I brought a specially marked box up to the counter. So I opened it to let them see the chameleons. They had lots of questions so it gave me a chance to explain all the things done to ensure the chameleon has a safe journey while inside the box. Now when I drop off my packages, they know and are much more courteous with me. They were really fascinated by it all.

Laurie, how could you go wrong taking chameleons to the vet? :D It think it was a very good idea. Too bad you have to drive so far to a vet. I'm sure the drive is beautiful though. Nothing like driving through Los Angeles

Sorry I must not have explained well, I just went to the local vet. He is only about 5 miles. He is the one I am trying to "train" and get up to speed on chameleons. I really need someone local just for the easy stuff, fecals, and the like.
