3 Month Cham - Crix & Mealworms?

I have found that my cham loves live mealworms, can I do half and half with crix and mealworms daily for him?

If so, how many meal worms/crix per day?

Today he ate 5 meal worms and 7 crix.

ya u have a youngin so Id feed him whatever he can eat. My Chameleons are a year old and I normally will feed like 3 crickets and 2 mealworms every other day or a couple more crickets ...

Edit: Being that yours is still young, feed it every day not every other day XD

Meal worms are not the best choice for chams. They are tempting due to their low cost but other feeders are mush better. I like hornworms and superworms as a secondary feeder. As a primary feeder, I use dubia roaches and crickets.

Theyre really easy to care for and breed. I was apprehensive at first but they are really clean as far as bugs go and they don't even seem like "yucky roaches" to me anymore.

same here i hate roaches, i feed mine crix and went so far as to get a cricket keeper so i never have to touch em haha. i love my reptiles but hate creepy lil bugs, are catapillars ok?, just the kind you would find in your garden?

Roaches aren't that bad :) irrational fears! My apartment complex doesn't even know I have them:p But I'm definitely having more luck breeding those than I am with the crickets... I've already had one give birth with only ten roaches in my care (can't really order any, complex may intercept and evict me hehe)

chendy I would not feed your chameleon wild caught caterpillars that you find in your garden. They usually eat plants in your garden and lots of those plants are toxic to your chameleon. I would NOT take the risk of that.

@ johnnyD: I just cant see me ever gettingb over that T_T It took me a while to get over holding the crickets... but I really really wanted to hand feed my chameleons XD I love it now though... still a little squirmish with crickets but I try to pretend they dont look like mini roaches lol. Hornworms freak me out cuase they try to latch on to me and im scared they will bite me.. but ill normally pick them up by their horns and (USUALLY) they dont attach to me that way lol.... Ive fed superworms... and out of all of these Im scared more of the superworms.... I do not know why... just their hard skeleton freak me out and the way they burrow into their substrate crap. lol >> I have a phobia of bugs... but I do it all for my babies T_T T_T

So I did a little research and read that mealworms are really more of a treat, so I am going to only give him 1-2 a day tops, and keep crix as his staple.

I read that Silkworms are a good staple, is that true? If so, I am sure he would them since he loves the meal worms, I think it's the movement of the worms.

Mealworms should be limited to around 10% of a chameleons diet. Larva generally no more tha 20%. Silkworms do make an excellent addition to a chameleons diet. Butterworms and hornworms arent bad either. Along with crickets, roaches, terrestrial isopods, cultured blue bottles, etc...
