24 hr Heart Attack!

So, For those of you who know I got Kermit, my male hoe on friday, probably also know I have been free ranging him
Yesterday evening, I got home from work, and Kermit was gone!
Kink, my 9 month old veiled was sitting on the wire of Kermits UVB bulb and Kermit was no where to be found!
I search high and low, in every nook and cranny a 5 month old hoe could get into.
I place vines everywhere, food out, and hoped hed come out today to bask.
Got home from work, still no Kermit.
All I can think is that Kink ate him?!?! Even though their free ranges are across the room frm each other, kink was near Kermits plants yesterday!

I have been freaking out, and even skipped my grad school class to try to find him.
I had pretty much given up, not sure what else to do.. when I sit down to watch tv. (in my living room, 20 feet down the hall from cham room).
Suddenly, my dog becomes interested in the cables behind my tv.

Wanna guess who was there!?!?!??!
Kermit, safe and sound, all be it cold!

He must have fallen off his free range, crawled the 9 feet to the room door, crawled UNDER the door, walked down the 20 someodd feet of hall way, past the cat (who is a great mouser), past the 9 month old setter puppy, and climbed up the tv cables!
He is now in a cage and will stay there till he gets much bigger and will be easier found when he escapes. He will free range again, under CLOSE supervision until much bigger!

Heart attack over!

Note to others- hoes are sneaky!!!!!!!

OMGSH! way to true!!!! chloe did the same sorta of thing when i got her. left her FR to go see clair on hers. (drawed down the dresser useing some cable across the bed, down the bed and up clairs tree str8 to her vine. little nut) clair was gapeing when i walked in and so i shut the cage for a few a days and tryed again. she didn like that and hasent left her own sence :)

I'm glad he's safe. PLEASE don't FR them in the same room. Veileds will eat large food items and sometimes even items that aren't food.

yeah it looked like she wanted to eat her but shes wayyy to big. clairs actually gotten to wear she doesnt puff or discolor when she sees chloe. chloe is submissive to her. they sun together aswell. to the OP how do your react to eachother being both male?

With having other animals I would suggest putting some type of "fence" around the range area. Slick enough the cham cant climb up it and tall enough nothing can get in. Make sure there are no limbs hanging over or near the fence because chams will jump from great hights!!

How do you keep the humidity up to an acceptable range for a hoe while free ranging in the same environment as veileds? Just wondering:) If the humidity is lower make sure it gets plenty of drink opportunities and "rained" on. Watch for retained sheds on the toes, enlarged scales and all other nooks and crannies. They can get infected rather easy.

Kermit is now permanently caged. Until adulthood.

Well I wasnt aware that kink would enjoy falling 4 feet+ from his free range... Guess he does.
BUt Kermit will be in Kinks baby cage. so even if Kink goes wandering off his free range. theres no way he can get to Kermit.

Well Kermit seems to not care, Kink is curious. more like what is this in my room, but he hasnt showed any threatening displays.

They were behind a shut door. WHo knew a cham would crawl under a door.

Kink has managed to wander sometimes, he does enjoy his diving, but beind behind a door, no other animals can get to the chams.

As for humidity, I hand spray, so Kermit the hoe just gets misted more often. ANd once I get my paycheck, Im ordering two misting systems for each, so Kermit can be misted more often than Kink the veiled.

THey both also have drippers, so whne not being misted they have 14 hour access to water.

I had the same experience with Lenny just after he started free ranging. I aged 20 years in 3 hours. Lenny is all settled in and just when everything had settled down in his world, Mr Bill came up to share the room. Lenny is a male quad and Mr Bill is a male panther. They have a tarp across part of the room but each has "dropped in to visit the neighbor. My friend and I took turns watching them for 2 days. If Lenny went to Bills, I move him back, if Bill went to Lenny's I moved him back. Now a week later, they no longer care about the other one. They each have a 8' x8' free range that is well landscaped. i think that helps a lot. They both seem happy and relaxed.

Cool! You got pics of the set up? I always like seeing free ranges.

Im glad this turned out to be a happy ending. Considering my experiences aren't too great with finding lost chams, I freak out whenever I hear that someone looses one!

i DID, but am now redoing the whole thing to try to figure out how to prevent kink from diving again.
The last time he did that, he ended up with bruises on his knees, elbows and face.

I dont remember, did you ever find him?
ANd When i went to bed last night, I even considered taking pics to do the find Kermit.

Turns out I couldnt find him, because he wasnt in the room anymore!

We found him too late, he's not with us anymore.

But whats funny is that he wasn't in my room either, which is where I spent most of the time looking. That seems to happen to us cham owners a lot, huh? I think we should automatically tell people to look in every room BUT the room the cham escaped in. :p (Not really, haha)

I think I aged 40 yrs in 24 hours. I swear they drive me crazy.

I want to put Kink back in a cage.. but hes gotten so nice with FR, that I cant make myself do it.
I caught Kink hanging out an inch from Kermit on sunday and they both just seemed chilled and relaxed.. However, that was broken up quickly.

Im hoping to in about 2 weeks to build a massive expansive free range for Kink.. and Kermit will stay in the baby cage... no more FR until hes big enough that he can be spotted more easily... so in like 6 months!

Im so sorry you lost him.
It really does, they are never where we expect them to be.
However, I never thought he would crawl under a door!

And what had be even more crazy was that there isnt even alot of stuff in the cham room. two desks, 10 large tubs with lids on, Kinks free range, and my ferret cage. and a few boxes. Thats it.
We just moved and i havent finished unpacking yet, which is why i couldnt fathom how he was still hiding. I know hes small, but jeebus!

The same thing happened with mine. He crawled under the crack of a door that was only 3/4s the size of a quarter.

Yeah, its WAY harder than it seems!

i do the same. chloe the hoe gets more misting than clair does and for longer. there is a humidity jump becuase clair also had tree but chloe had lots of pothos. it can definitly be done. thats so cool. sorry you had to cage your baby up :(
