Welcome to the September SBCK meeting! We'll be meeting Saturday, September 29 from 2PM to 5PM (and after) in Brea, (Southern) California at Kevin (Summoner12) Zamp's apartment complex. If you need directions RSVP to the address below and you'll get what you need!

We are planning out the rest of the year and have some great ideas. Right now we are working on nailing down some chameleon condo plans so we can have a group build for our October meeting. We also have the Christmas party to discuss and whether we want to do a show in December or January.

Though never a requirement, we enjoy the cookies, brownies, vegetable plates, snacks, and drinks that members choose to bring. Don't be shy if you'd like to add to the ambiance with a snack of your own to share!

RSVP with an email to: [email protected] with how many people will be coming with you. We will reply with the address and directions to the meeting location for those that request it.

2pm-3pm.........Meet & Greet
~4pm............Feeder co-op sale and distribution
~5pm++..........Conversation and Meeting Wrap-up

The "South Bay Chameleon Keepers" (SBCK) meetings are free-of-charge meetings and are pretty much free-flowing, with all chameleon topics open for discussion. "Show and Tell" discussions are common. We continue to have group bulk-buys (silkworms, hornworms, superworms, crickets, dubias etc.) at our meetings. Some members may be bringing these feeders to sell but that's not guaranteed. Let us know if you are looking for these feeders (or anything else) and we'll try to confirm availability (pre-ordering) before the meeting. Some keepers bring their chameleon books and magazines along with other various items to spark discussions. We all enjoy seeing your chameleons, young and old, big and small. Just keep in mind that there is stress involved in the trip. So if you plan on bringing chameleons either for Show and Tell or for sale (pre-arranged sales are encouraged) just keep in mind your chameleon's well-being.

Our group ranges from long-time breeders to novice keepers. There are usually new members at every meeting.

See You There,

SBCK

Hornworms anyone?

I'm thinking of ordering Hornworms from Coastal. Anybody interested?
They are out of silkies right now.
If there is enough takers, I'll place an order. Depending on how many I order, they would be $10-$12.00 each.

Let me know:D

Chameleon Condo

Folks, Here is a picture of the Chameleon Condo that will be in attendance at the meeting. For those thinking of coming to a meeting, but just have never made it, this is a good time to get in!

Meeting topics
September 29: Making plans for Chameleon Condo club craft day. We will study the condo, make a parts list, figure out what tools we need to bring next time.

October 27: Chameleon Condo Club Craft Day! We will bing our supplies and build Chameleon Condos together. This is a structure for a free range feel on a reasonable scale.

November 17: Get ready for the Christmas party!

December 8: Christmas Party!!! We have a number of special events planned already!

The SBCK meetings are a great gathering of friends that have chameleons in common. If you love chameleons and would like to mill about with others who know the challenges of hissers vs. dubia or think that jacksoniii and johnstoni are a world's difference then this is the place for you. And if you are new to chameleons, don't know what the heck a johnstoni is or whether you wear or write with a "dubia", but are soaking up all you can then this is an even more perfect place! Send an email to [email protected] for directions and answers to questions!

Howdy All,

The photo session theme for tomorrow is macro shots. I'd like to shoot some real close-up shots of various chameleon surfaces :). I got the Canon 5D Mark III camera body a week ago and haven't tried the marco lens on it yet .

I took some extreme macro shots of those tiny Argentine ants a few weeks ago with my old Canon T2i and my 100mm L macro lens with a stack of Kenko extension tubes:

WOOOOOW Dave i love the first photo every time i see a humming bird it reminds me of those pictures you took of them:p i think a good macro shot would be of something strange, the stranger the better!

Really great shots Dave. Do you have any Mantid or Phasmatodea pictures?
Howdy Craig,

The only Mantid shot I have is the one I took when SBCK went on that nature hike after the Sept. 2011 meeting. The shot was a little soft since I was hand-holding the camera . If anyone brings one today, I'd like to take some macro shots of it (hint-hint) :).

wow!! awesome pictures dave!!!!! im sad i couldn't make it to the meeting today! :( I've been running around from place to place the last couple of days. hope you all had a great time and an awesome meeting:D

Fantastic shots Dave!!!!! Mind sharing your gear and settings?
Howdy Clark,

I just got my Canon 5D MkIII a couple of weeks ago at the best price yet (online from Authorized dealer and Canon USA warranty) and couldn't pass it up this time . I was shooting with my 100mm-L macro lens, 580EXII flash with diffuser. Most of the Mantid shots were 1/100th f/11 and iso 800. I used Lightroom 4.1 to make any adjustments such as sharpening and noise reduction. Although noise is much lower with this new body, LR4.1 does a great job completely taking care of it. With my T2i, shooting at 800iso would have been a real problem compared to the 5D3 . I also shot some of the more magnified-looking Mantid shots and maybe some of the chameleon shots with some Kenko extension tubes between the lens and body making the effective magnification even higher :).

Thanks so much for the info!! I have looked at the 5D3 and the T4i. To replace my old xti but haven't pulled the trigger yet on the upgrade...I have a friend that does all kinds of star trail photos in LR4.1. Also will have to check into those kenko tubes. I really appreciate you sharing all the info and again great shots!!

WOW  Like the mantis head shots the best --> Evil scientist look. Scale shots were cool too. Thanks for sharing.
