Chameleon Ready to Lay Eggs, Won't Lay? Gular Edema and Abdominal Fluid?

...ever since she developed her gravid shape a couple of months ago, she's had this weird bulge around her neck that has been identified as gular edema, and there is also fluid in her abdomen. The vet didn't seem to be sure whether this would go away after the eggs were laid. She advised me to...

    Swollen throat?

What supplements are you using? I believe some members have had problems with gular edema anecdotally related to Arcadia supplements and/or bee pollen.

    Gular Edema, No more hornworms

I haven’t had any bites that I’m aware of. Here’s something I ripped from one of jacksjill’s posts “As a montane species (native to higher altitudes) Jackson's have decreased supplementation requirements compared to tropical species due to metabolism differences. Use calcium (without D3 or...

    Edema

...to acute renal insufficiency I think is very common in reptiles, and probably leads to many of the health issues we see in captivity, gular edema, gout, renal secondary hyperparathyroidism (MBD), probably contributory to infectious problems, etc. So I’m curious if the ambient day/night...

    Introducing Cratesiclea

Update: the bump is slowly but steadily shrinking. Probably a fatty tumour. I have noticed slight gular edema in her, so she’s off the synthetic vitamins, and into the natural sunlight until it clears up. Also, she has started to shed. Not really important, but exciting!

My veil is not using his back left foot.

Some of us with veiled who have tried the Repashy with LoD at every feeding have had issues with edema. My girl had gular and eye edema, as did the others if I recall correctly. A couple of chameleon-experienced vets I’ve seen have recommended using it just once every other week and a plain...

@Beman said...."What do you think. Am I correct in seeing edema in the gular area between her front arms?"... Sure looks like edema to me.

2 days not eating, Male Jackson Xanth

...CURRENT PROBLEM: Hasn’t eaten for 2 days. Will take to the vet for a fecal exam to check for parasites. Any other possibilities? He has gular edema, which isn’t as bad as it was when I first got him. He is still moving around during the day to follow the sun. No sunken or closed eyes...

    Edema

Thanks for the info! My home is around 73, his basking in the house is around 78. Humidity is between 45-50. He was only inside for about a week, normally he’s outside. I live in FL so we have pretty optimal conditions for outside housing. As far as dehydration it’s hard to tell because he poops...

    Lower protein feeder options

Here is a picture of one of his front feet... It is not huge but it is swollen compared to how it normally is and the ankle area. Edema today has reduced again this morning. almost a totally smooth gular area.

    Supplementation discussion

...Repashy calcium with LoD was the one to use for all feedings…no other supplements needed. I of course tried it and my girl got eye and gular edema, as did some other member’s chams. I think it was last year that bee pollen was highly suggested to add to all supplements by someone who I won’t...

harmful white spots from uvb exposure?

...or the mazuri one I would advise against using the Repashy gut load in conjunction with a strong supplement schedule as this can lead to gular edema. Here is a link to the schedule I use and some others for Jackson's. If he gets a lot of outdoor time regularly then only use multi with D vit...

Puffing under chin and body.. about to shed

If you can, can you try to get a picture when he is asleep? I’d like to see his throat while not agitated. I’m curious if there is any gular edema.

How to disinfect chameleon enclosure after parasites

...her legs (armpits?) I give her a good misting. I've also noticed she's thirsty when her throat is enlarged but not puffed, almost like a gular edema that goes away once she drinks, or when her eyes aren't as inflated as I'd like them to be. A few times I've seen her have strands of saliva...

    Dehydrated Female Chameleon

Yes thank you please review my first post. Yes I do agree on the edema and the vet said that was to be expected from the subq fluids?

    Swollen throat?

No arcadia products. I've had him 4 months (he's 8 months) and I've done exactly as the breeder instructed Supplements - Zoomed Calcium without D3 6 days a week, Zoomed calcium with D3 2x month, Reptivite without D3 2x month, Sticky Tounge miner-all outdoor formula (without D3) 2-3x week.

    heat and vitamins

If that is what your breeder has been using, it’s fine. When I first joined the forum last year that was what everyone seemed to be recommending. However, some of us, especially with veileds, noticed some edema issues that stopped when we stopped using it. It is a good all in one as far as I...
