    Bioactive substrate

...I already know what plants to use and how to set it up, but veiled chams are known for eating dirt. I was thinking of covering the substrate in large river rocks or maybe just adding adding a thick layer of leaf litter. I don't know if this is strictly necessary. Does anyone have any ideas...

Biodynamics of climbing: effects of substrate orientation on the locomotion of a highly arboreal lizard (Chamaeleo calyptratus)…

“On inclines and declines, limb placement was more variable than on level substrates. The tail never contacted the substrate during level locomotion; however, on inclines and declines, the tail was held closer to the substrate, with short substrate contacts in one-third of the analyzed trials...

Nannizziopsis guarroi has prolonged environmental persistence on clinically relevant substrates…

...caused by N guarroi should be aware that this microbe may have environmental persistence after exposure to aque- ous and solid substrates. This information should be paired with currently available data on effective disinfection strategies to reduce the environmental burden of the fungus and...

Water ratio for vermiculite incubation substrate?

So it finally happened! My female veiled laid her clutch! It took her many hours but she just finished up. I have mixed up a batch of vermiculite following the instructions of a post I read on here. Not too wet, but wet enough that a few drops drip out when squeezed. I was wondering if it should...

Substrate-Borne Communication in Chameleons: Do Vibrations Induce Behavioral Changes?…

“Understanding the modes of communication used by a species is essential to understanding their ecology, behavior, and evolution. Substrate-borne vibrations have been reported to be produced by the veiled chameleon (Chamaeleo calyptratus), possibly implemented by use of a gular pouch. We found...

    2 questions: space and substrate

Question #1: my next enclosure will be custom built. I'm thinking about going as big as 3'x3'x6'. Is there such thing as too much space for a chameleon or other downsides to going that big? Question #2: as anyone planted grass in their bioactive enclosure? Is this a good or bad idea?
