yea mealworms and waxworms don't make good staples but are good in a pinch. i store mine in the fridge. not sure bout food for the waxworms, but every few days i'll take the mealys out, let them warm up and put a slice of apple or carrot in their container. after bout 30 min i'll remove wats...
i will def give alfalfa a try. yea this does seem like alot of effort, but i keep my cricket keeper clean and mold free and every time i go to get them out....ugh yuk. hahaha maybe im just overly sensitive to the smell
As im sure all of you know, crickets smell like somethin awful. yukkk. but i came across this video online and figured i'de share it. im looking into doing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdEfjuYREcM&feature=related
it really does amaze me...the weird positions chams will fall asleep in lol. Mine looks so uncomfortable sometimes but than i realize he's passssed out haha
When i first got my cham and he was still getting acclimated, he was fussy when it came to just about everything including eating and drinking so i decided to give him a "shower". i have a small mesh reptarium so i put him in there with a vine and put it in the shower with the shower head aimed...
ok so i got a silkworm cup about a month ago filled with small worms, and they lasted quite awhile and grew pretty big. i finally fed them all off yesterday and im now left with 3 cocoons. i figured i could at least attempt to keep them going if at all possible and wanted to see if anyone has...
yes i agree there is no easy way. i spot clean every 1-3 days and drain water from the water catcher daily. every few months a take everything out and give it a good spray down with warm water and a drop of antibacterial soap and rinse it out thoroughly. i also run a miniature fan pointed...
i use an automatic mister, a drip system and a spray bottle, but i would like him to warm up a little more to me....associate me with good things. once a day i mist him down for about 10 min with warm water and he absolutely loooves it. he will open his mouth and drink away. im not set on him...
i've been trying for a few days now to get my jacksons cham to drink water out of a syringe (without the needle on of course) but he is absolutely terrified of it for some reason. should i just give up on tht or do you think he will eventually come around?
i will def try the fridge thing now, thnks ace :) and i tried to get some cups with food, but noone had them at the show, so i hope the fridge slows them down enough to stop their gluttonous behavior!
while at a reptile show i grabbed some dubias, silkworms and hornworms. the hornworms are on the small side which is the way ide like them to stay, but as you probably know they grow very quickly. the lady there said to put them on the door of the fridge for a day, then take them out for a day...
yes i offered him one earlier today and he seemed interested but he never actually ate it. i saw a vid on youtube of a jacksons eating a roach tht looked really big, but he managed it with no problems so i totally believe you. it would be nice to start a small colony but i have all females :(...
i was at a reptile show yesterday and saw dubia roaches for $1 each so i grabbed a few figuring i'de give em a try. they're a little over an inch long, and now im thinking they look a little big for my cham. anyone know if thts too large for an adult jacksons??
in my automatic mister i only use distilled water so i don't get calcium buildup in the nozzles. you can clear it up with vinegar like sticktongue said, but i feel the hassle of buying distilled water is way less than removing my mister nozzles to soak in vinegar. in my dripper and hand...
ive had my jacksons cham for goin on 6 months now and he is shedding for the second time since i got him. however, i feel as though he sheds different parts of his body at different times. when he first shed his body and his eyes became dull and eventually peeled off normally and he looked...
thanks for responding all! i always have crickets, mealworms and superworms on hand, but my cham loooves his silkies and butterworms more than anything. i figured since butterworms have a higher fat content, i would give those more sparingly than the silkies. ive tried hornworms too and he...
i've heard alot of good things about mistking, but it seemed too expensive and complicated for me since i only have one cham. if you only need a misting system for a single cage, i would highly recommend the exo-terra monsoon. works great! ive had no issues
i know alot of people consider crickets and dubia roaches the best staple diets, but does anyone see anything wrong with silkworms as a staple? my cham will eat crickets, but he's not big on them and i don't really like the idea of breeding roaches in the home haha
thanks so much for the quick responses! i have read many articles about people disagreeing on supplement usage, but everyone agrees tht a good gutload is important. ive been using flukers orange cubes for my mealworms, superworms, and crickets. silkworms just eat silkworm chow, and i heard...
