Lol, I had this happen to me to like a week or so ago looked for him for nearly 30 minutes. Just as I was about to give up the search he started climbing my finger.
I have 3 main feeders I house (Crickets, Dubias, and Lateralis) all in 64 Qt. Sterilite Tubs. I have breeding colonies set up for the Dubia and Lateralis, I buy the crickets in bulk (not worth breeding them in my opinion). The Cricket tub should be cleaned every other day, Lateralis at least...
I use 16 oz, deli cups (the ones that are about 4 inches tall), then I poke 2 small holes about half an inch from the top .25 inches apart, then I strip (remove the covering) a twist-tie and use it to tie the cup onto the screen cage. Then I place another deli cup into the attached cup (this...
You can also cycle them into the fridge to slow they're growth. I do 2 days in the fridge, then 1 day out. I do every once in a while have one or 2 die on me but nothing major.
As for size and frequency, I usually give 1 a week to my Veileds and Panthers, for the length of the worm I give...
She is pretty small a little over 2 inches (Is that big enough to be mature?).
I did move the new Bearded Pygmy in with the other 2, and the substrate is a soil/coconut husk mix.
I wish I had more money I could have spent at the show, there was a Beautiful trio of Carpet Chameleons for $300 and one of our forum members (sorry I forgot your User-Name) had some really nice Translucent Veiled Chameleons.
Thankyou, lol. Timing is amazing cause Is had just checked the FL Chams web cite to ID them and came to the same species ID as you. Nice so now I have a trio (1.2.0) of Bearded Pygmies and the start to an R. temporalis trio. Still got a good deal still only paid $45 for both.
I just got home from the reptile show in Hamburg, PA. I made the mistake of bringing money :).
I ended up buying 2 more Pygmy Chameleons. Plus I got some good photos of the ones I got about a month ago.
This is Nana (female Bearded Pygmy I bought last month).
This is Popo (male Bearded Pygmy...
I run mine for a total of about 30 minutes a day, and it uses somewhere around 2 or 3 gallons a day (with 3 mister nozzles). My reservoir is 10ish Gallons, so I don't have to fill it every day.
It's a good idea to feed atleast 2 different kinds of insectes daily, if you have the space (I use 64 Qt. Sterilite Tubs) to keep bulk orders of them it is cheap.
I have 3 main feeders daily at the moment (Cricket, Dubia, and Red Racers). It is very easy to keep and breed Dubias and Red...
Dubias are one of my staple foods.
My Veileds and Panthers all get Dubias, Crickets and Red Racers (just started these) at every feeding. I supplement in some random bugs for treats (Hornedworms, silk worms,Super Worms, and a few others every so often).
It means you feed your chameleon in a deli cup (or something like one), instead of just letting them loss in the cage.
It makes it easier to tell if your chameleon is eating and also helps prevent feeder from escaping.
Yes, watching them grow is great. The problem is that most chameleons are super fragile until they are 2 or 3 months old (most breeders wait till they are 3 months).
That being said at 3 months they (panthers and veileds) are still fairly tiny (snout to vent of like 2 inches) and grow fast.
I haven't been able to hand feed crickets (my hands aren't very steady, darn RODP) , but I have done horned worms by hand. Took a few weeks for the chameleons to be comfortable enough to eat those from my hand.
I may be able to take him off your hands, if you need someone to take him (or buy at a good price). I also live in eastern PA (about 30 miles NE of Hamburg, about 90 miles from Philly).
