Hey there, welcome to the forums. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your chameleon.
It will do best to fill out the https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ form. This is the information many of the more experienced keepers and veterinarians will need to help diagnose the problem with...
They turn dark colors to absorb light better, usually when basking. Take him out in the sun, he should change to bright colors then dark to bask.
If hes spotted black then hes stressed.
Thanks for the responses :) I havent counted since I don't want to disturb them too much but only a handful, about 10-15 females 5-8 males. Don't they give birth once a month on average?
Also misting will cause mold won't it?
So as I'm sure you know and are tired of hearing me complain I can't get my roaches to breed, how can I tell? I bought 1k nymphs to feed off, so most are pretty small. I added heat recently, and noticed some -very- small nymphs. Would these be new babies? The 1k nymphs were about 1 1/2 months...
I have a 2 1/2 feet wide, 4 feet long and 6 feet high cage for my juvenile veiled. I have one heat lamp, 75 watt and one 18" uvb linear. He hangs out under the lights when he wants them. So you probably don't need two heat lamps on a cage that small.
Sorry to hear about your cham :(
Just noticed, for future reference. They don't need a red light at night, if you need to heat up the room he is in at night, ceramic heaters are the best. Also, most use reptisun 5.0 linear hood lamp/bulb.
Good luck!
Are the lamps inside the cage? I hear they might climb up and burn themselves by accident.
My guy doesn't hiss, but doesn't enjoy it either. I will handle him though because I want him to atleast tolerate it. When hes older, I'll have gloves on just in case. :)
Hes a male veiled.
They got a starter kit too, kind of costly but I spent around the same getting all the materials together and buying the roaches. I'd suggest just get the starter kit and save you the trouble.
Thanks for the responses :)
So I shouldn't place it between wood and plastic? If I have a spacer so its not directly touching plastic should that be fine?
I'm working on Dubia right now, pretty easy to breed (supposedly) I'm not having that much luck. Only been a month or so though. They are much more expensive then crickets but its a investment. For the states that's all I know, crickets and roaches.
Sandrachameleon has bred snails and isopods...
I have them in a Rubbermaid, its pretty large. I have mainly nymphs but around 20 adults, 2:1 ratio female to male. I've had them for about two months now (The adults) and no babies yet. Going to move over nymphs for feeders then add a heating mat to the colony and only disturb them to feed...
Only reason I'd have one of these is to feed it to my Melon :) Seeing as how they are pretty mean and hurt my Melon I won't ever own one of these. :P
But! I love them, they're so cool :)
Yes and no, check out Piggletts blog (its in his signature) and this is a thread about it.

Only recently has my Male veiled picked a 'sleeping' spot. Even then, he changes his positions. When I first got him he would sleep upside down on the lowest hanging branches. So I know how you feel. If you're worried something is wrong with his health you may want to fill out a...
