Wow, great discussion everyone!
I am definitely going to look more into this. However, if the arachnid guys find out I am interested in vertebrate systematics, I might be in trouble.
My initial thought is that the dwarfs and pygmys are indeed paraphyletic.
It is in an unfinished section of my basement. That being the case, the basement stays 58-65 year round with no real fluctuation.
I also use a cool mist humidifier that can affect the temperature approx. 6-8 degrees.
Temp balance is maintained via these numerous methods and adjustable vents.
Bickel and Loso, 2002 is a very interesting paper, and is a good example of basic evolutionary biology.
I have noticed that some of the dwarf/pygmys have received some special attention. I have not read that paper yet [Mathee et al. 2004], but it looks like they have a great character matrix...
I would ideally like to look at some of the most recent cladograms, at both the specific and general level. I am curious about their speciation, and phylogeography. If they are still termed a complex, they need more work. Bear in mind however, I have not yet looked at the description of Kinyonga...
Nevermind some of the poor looking plants, had some dieoff in my S. arboricola in the other room. I plan on replacing the plants in most of these cages. Haven't decided what yet, but I would like to try something other than this species of plant.
I might also change the wood types too. I...
It is quite a special feeling sitting in this room.
This was simply made in a few hours by essentially building in styrofoam shed, held together by duct tape and large bolts with washers. Inside is completely sealed with foam expansion, and nearly air tight. I will also install a nice...
This is just what I was looking for, but managed to ramble on about other things.
Is anyone currently working with the "cristatus" or "fischeri" complexes?
Ok, my main interest and projects/aim in education focus on systematics. I have been keeping herps and inverts since I was a small child, but usually as a hobby. I now broker and breed these animals for a good portion of my income and had to jump into chams just to do something different, and...
Just might what you expect the average adult montane cham to take down in food a week (i.e. fischeri complex members, cristatis complex members, jacksoni, etc). I have been doing 2-4 crickets 2-3 times a week.
I might assume that their slow metabolism (chams already seem to have a slow...
Great info!
I will enjoy looking these over.
I will let you guys know how I do in the future. I have several people that breed beardeds that want to me do this for them as well.
I get a new scope in a few weeks too, one that I can take photos with!
This is great guys. Thanks for the info, I will MOS DEF be contacting him!
I JUST about order a few pairs today too...
I guess they would be pretty typical of any other montane species, from what I am reading.
I will be curious to hear from Josh, just what he did as far as incubating the...
I doubt that book will go much into internal micro organisms, however I will likely pick up a copy of that anyways.
Looks like staining will be involved in identifying some of these things too.
Thanks for the input!
I find this very interesting.
Here are some quick links I dragged up in case any else found this interesting too.

Does anyone know much about just what vets are looking for in reptile feces in doing smears?
I have several microscopes - both dissection and compound - that I use for invertebrate taxonomy/systematics. I would love to be able to identify at least some of the most basic organisms that we...
I really love this species, and with my montane shed up and running perfectly, I think I might consider a few animals.
What are your experiences with them, or what do you have to share?
The only people that I know have them right now is Eco Regional, and I have not heard good things about...
Oh yes, the mini room. I will have to post some photos later. It's basically a styrofoam shed in an unfinished basement. Its working perfectly, but probably sounds half ass, it does look rather clean.
Broke down and went a tossed together a mini cham room. I should be good now to do a few more montanes. The "mini room" sits around the mid 70's during the day and will drop to the mid 60's to mid 50's depending on what I want it to do. With an ultrasonic humidifier, the room will stay as moist...
Thanks for the input.
Their body temps are reading around 70-75 with a temp gun.
I can see K. fischeri doing even better at these temps.
I just cannot get comfortable with reptiles at 65-70 ambient!
