I really like that heating element Summoner.
I've decided to bring my panthers inside this winter but I would probably leave a verrucosus (which I hope i get someday) outdoor all year in San Diego with one of those.
Living by the beach was awesome, the low was never more than 10-15 degrees lower than the daily high in winter! Coldest night was around 45. My weather now(8 miles inland) definitely doesn't get as chilly as it does in VC. I grew up in TO so i know exactly what Oxnard weather is, crazy!:) I once...
Im 8 miles inland in San diego and I really don't know what I want to do just yet. I had my chams outside all year minus a few weeks last winter when I lived in Ocean Beach, now I'm a bit more inland so I am still debating whether or not I should bring them in from outside when it chills.
I...
thanks! I imagine to get equal basking temps, if you compared the wattage used for the two types of lights, it would be more efficient to use normal bulbs but the light for my indoor plants was the reason I asked;)
Thanks:)
I've always considered the # rating(5.0/10.0) to be the percentile of total lumens emitted by a lamp. So, to me, it is curious why the 10.0 are more risky to use. Anyways, IMO it is all about the distance your reptile will be from the light source at it's srtongest area in the cage and weakest...
are non-UVB CFLs ok in cham enclosures?
I've been curious about something..
So, the "spiral" fluorescent UVB bulbs sold for reptiles are problematic for our reptiles. Since this is a thread on heat sources, I ask you this:
Do regular(not the reptile UVB bulbs) "spiral" fluorescent...
lil Moffy hahaha
well I've always been curious how people deal with one aspect of raising silkworms..that aspect is when the are newly hatched.
I was told one of the efficient ways to move silkworms from their scummy living conditions to a cleaner one was to have two mesh screens. Put one...
Indeed, Olimpia has put up a really good general idea of the initial expenses.
Also, lights get replaced twice a year depending on usage.
The main thing I took away from #1 doing research, and #2 actually getting everything set up, is that everyone has different techniques to keep reptiles in...
Pic heavy so this is the general design plans first.
A steal piping frame was used. There is a 4" gap from top of the cage to the patio ceiling. The screen was bought from home depot and basically used super-glue for the whole shin-dig to make the cage. Completely "sealed" so I COULD let...
I really think for anyone getting their first automated mister its "ultimate value" all the way unless you are REALLY sure you will never own a second or third or fourth..you know what I mean!
Either way, automated misters are LEGIT.
Those are called "dorito legs" each dorito has 3(when they rub their legs against their wings the dorito bag makes a chirping noise!). You can locate them my finding the dorito's corners, then break off each one of them and feed them your chameleon without any worries..or wait..now the dorito...
I like them. A hardy plant..although my only scheff is now just about dead since I got it back from my friend last week who took care of my cam's for 2 weeks(he must not have watered it once lol). Very true about them possibly being too weak/small if your cham is too big.
OK this is my situation. I just moved into an apartment in San Diego, CA. Own 2 panthers but maybe more in the future. I plan to live here for a few years.
Anyways, the two reptiles will both be on my balcony for something close to year round. The female is in a normal screen cage but my larger...
