My chameleon is always dark while basking

Sorry, should've clarified: the temperature doesn't vary from 70 to 85- there is a temperature gradient from 85 to 70. Thanks for the information regarding pale coloring- you may be on to something. I have seen her try and crawl up to the cage's ceiling a few times. And yes, the light is not in...

My chameleon is always dark while basking

I do have a place for her to dig. I am fairly confused right now. One person says her spot is too hot, another says it is pretty much perfect. Also, I have noticed her yawning a fair amount recently, which from what I've read indicates that she is too hot. Could it just be that it is just...

My chameleon is always dark while basking

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the thoroughness! In addition to a number of vines and sticks aroudn her basking spot, I also have a vertical piece of bamboo beneath the light, so she can locate herself somewhere on there to achieve the right temperature.

    Help

How big is the container? It should be 10" or 12" deep, and have a similar diameter. Soil should be moist enough to stick together, but not so much that it is soggy.

My chameleon is always dark while basking

Hugh, it is cold outside, but I never have that window open. I just leave the blinds open so she gets some ambient light.

My chameleon is always dark while basking

Is there anything besides a digital thermometer that would be accurate, or should I just buy a digital thermometer? Also, why aren't analog thermometers reliable?

My chameleon is always dark while basking

If it's too warm, then why would she be dark?

My chameleon is always dark while basking

Sorry for the delay, have an analog thermometer. Her basking spot, which is 4" from the 72W bulb, is at 85 Fahrenheit.

My chameleon is always dark while basking

Whenever my female veiled chameleon is basking, she had a black-and-grey coloration. This is different from her stress coloration, which is a solid dark grey. From what I have observed on this forum, this is not normal. Is it because she is too cold? Pictures: Info sheet: Female veiled...

    Has anyone

I do not wish to discredit you guys, would just like to remark on the following: never trust a company's word on a competing company. The word will invariably be negative. From what I am seeing it looks like they actually are a scam site though.

    Miscellaneous questions

I guess I actually have on more question: My chameleon almost always has a darkish coloration when she is basking- not all dark grey, like when she is stressed, but a splotchey light grey-dark grey coloration: Is this normal?

    Miscellaneous questions

I had a few questions that I figured I would lump into a single threat, rather than start several threads. When do female veiled chameleons generally become full-grown? I am breeding crickets. How long should I keep the breeding dish in the main tank before I put it in the baby tank? Also, how...

    Movie

Eeyore, it is sad but you are probably very right. The worst thing is, this movie seems like one that only a kid would enjoy, so it will be small children buying chameleons and then caring for them poorly.

    over feeding ....

From what I have heard that is way too much for a chameleon to be eating. I think when they are that age they only need about 12 a day, max. Get input from more people, though. It will also save you large amounts of money.

How big do veiled chameleons grow ?

Hrm... I wouldn't think evolution would do anything at all over a period of a hundred years. If it did, though, maybe the breeders found smaller chameleons easier to feed, so they had a higher survival rate?

Just starting out and need some advice

Not really sure how to solve the drainage issue. If you are misting then some of the water can be directed into the plant pots, but other than that I just use paper towels and let evaporation do the rest.
