I totally get it. I feel like as we work on our cage setups there is a little Macgyver in all of us!! BTW the camera you reference is the panning option - probably overkill for my needs. I'm probably going to check out their latest cordless, water-resistant, outdoor version. But my one...
I have the Monsoon Solo. Not sure if it's different than the larger Monsoon version, but mine has the timer as you mention, but it also has a basic ON setting as well. I put mine on a programmable timer and turned the Monsoon to ALWAYS ON, and so the timer controls how long it stays on for...
Yep, got that covered. I followed the advice to use a wire shelf so all the lights sit 4 inches above the top of the cage, with another 5-8 inches along the basking area. So a 12% should be fine.
I know the standard light schedule is 12 on/12off, but more specifically I'm curious WHICH 12 hours everyone keeps their lights on. I've seen recommended schedules of 7a-7p, but was wondering if anyone is doing 8a-8p or even 9a-9p or later? The selfish kid in me wants to go 9a-9p so I get the...
I'm considering installing a camera to monitor my chameleon. I've seen various posts recommending the Wyze brand. V2 seems economical enough while still providing a lot of great features. V3 seems to be a step up, but both require being plugged in. And there is now a Wyze Outdoor version...
Today is the day I finally got to move my veiled chameleon into his new enclosure!! Meet Fidji and his new home!! I’m still planning to add some small orchids when I can find some, but otherwise I feel his new home is complete. It’s a Dragon Strand Tall Hybrid with Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED...
Thanks everyone for the various ideas!! That's what I love about this forum....I literally stopped my build today to post this, anticipating I might have a response by the time I was done with everything and low and behold LOTS of great ideas arrive!!
The magnet idea is definitely interesting...
I'm assembling a new enclosure using the Dragon Strand Tall Hybrid - the one with PVC walls. I'm trying to install a Monsoon Solo misting system where the nozzles have suction cups to attach to the walls (see pics). I have additional suction cups for the tubing down the back of the cage, none...
Agreed as an inexpensive and simple solution. I picked mine up at Petco and ordered a splitter and second nozzle online. Eventually I want the Mistking but it’s ok as a starter model for now.
I saw one of the online reptile suppliers (maybe Josh’s Frogs) sold some “bug off” item that is supposed to help limit loose feeders to the room they got out in. Not certain how it works. Just spray it across the door threshold?
The recipe only called for about a teaspoon of calcium for what would amount to a sizeable amount of roach chow when all said and done, so I agree that whatever I buy, I'll have for quite a while!!
And I completely agree about possible ulterior motives on the part of the author, as at the end...
I was looking into recipes to create my own roach chow, and more than one recipe called for straight calcium powder (nothing extra like D3 and other vitamins). For all the other ingredients, they keep saying you can get the cheapest version of each at the local dollar store, etc. So of course...
Just got home from it myself. Definitely wall to wall snakes as others mentioned but I enjoyed looking at it all nonetheless. They did have some veiled, Jackson’s and even a few panthers. I even saw a rainbow Jackson and some spiney chams which I have never heard of.
I did pick up some crickets...
Looking good!! I’m working on a similar project with the same enclosure. I see you positioned the two misting nozzles at opposite corners. I like that idea. Assuming the back left corner will have lots of plants and be his hiding spot this makes sense to me. I’m curious what position others...
Can anyone confirm if the Reptile Expo is on this weekend in Hamburg PA? It shows advertised on their website so I assume it’s happening but with social distance conditions.
Anyone going?
I’m only 45 minutes away and this would be my first time ever at one of these events.
I was recently reading the materials provided on chameleons.info by Petr Necas, explaining the concept of creating the most natural environment as possible for your chameleon. This includes following the natural dry and wet seasons where lighting and misting timing varies based on the season...
I'm using both dry cricket crack and fresh veggies/greens for my feeder gutloading, but I don't see much of any of it being consumed. The dry stuff doesn't disappear and the fresh veggies/greens tend to shrivel up and dry long before being eaten. I'm curious about others experiences and tricks...
I wanted to give a shout-out to Full Throttle Feeders for excellent customer service! I recently ordered one of their ingenious feeder cups and although they shipped it within 24 hours of placing my order, the shipment got stuck along the way in the USPS system. Once they were made aware of...
