My Parsons new home

Hello everyone,

So I finally finished putting together my Parsons' outdoor cage together. His name is Sling-Blade, by the way. It's a powder-coated metal outdoor aviary measuring approximately 7'x5'x6'. The cage is located in a very well shaded part of my yard. It doesn't get much direct sunlight and as you can see, there's plenty of vegetation coverage for both shade and humidity retention. The cage sits on a 2" thick concrete slab. I originally had it on big pieces of natural slate, but then changed my mind. I thought the concrete slab would be a lot easier to hose off and keep clean.

I ran a misting line and also a drip line to it from my garage where my water reservoir lies.

There are 6 double nozzles inside the cage, but I'm considering running 2 more to make sure everything gets wet. Here's a pic with the mistking on. It's kind of hard to see the fine mist.

Now all I have to do is find a mate for him to share his new abode with. All comments and advice appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Awesome new home! It looks great. It gets pretty warm here in FL, up to 90 sometimes so I have to keep my girls AC running or she would get way to hot.

Now that is awesome! Beautiful chameleon and enclosure! Im jealous super bad...

Edit: Be careful of that plant. As your chameleon gets larger. Those limbs break away from the trunk quite easily.

Yes I was thinking that too. Even though the branches can easily support him now, I doubt so when he's full grown.

It's kind of hard to see because of all the leaves but I have some sandblasted grape vines and branches hanging in the cage now. I plan on buying a lot more at the next reptile show that comes into town.

That is a gorgeous animal and the enclosure is fantastic. What a great place to sit quietly in the early morning. Here in NE Florida it gets too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter for outdoor enclosures. I have to be content with somewhat portable enclosures that I can move out onto the screened porch when the weather is nice.

That looks great Wayne. Looks like a great location too.

I used the same misting nozzles in my GOC and found that the mist was too fine. It seemed to bother their eyes and not provide enough water for them to get enough to drink. I changed mine to the mister heads they sell at HD. If you watch him while the misters are on you can see if he's having the same problems.

Yeah, none of my chams like the misting too much, but they all seem to endure it.

In addition to the misting, I have several drip lines over several parts of the cage running for 2 hours in the morning and 2hours in the late afternoon. This is to keep the humidity up and give him ample places to drink.

I live relatively close to the beach so it never really gets too hot out. I do plan on increasing the misting frequency and length in the peak summer months just as a precaution. It does get cold in the winter and I plan on moving him back into the garage with the rest of my chams during the colder months.

Thanks everyone else for your kind words. I am really excited about this new enclosure. I can't wait to find Sling-blade a mate either. Not so much to breed, but just to keep him company.

I'm really impressed with this, one question about housing parsonii outdoors, with parsonii having quite sensitive eyes and skin is there a chance that the sun could cause any problems and if so how do you prevent this? Is a well shaded enclosure with plenty of foliage enought? I'm just asking as I'm looking to do something similar in the future for mine
