My cat ate my chameleon last month.I have a new chameleon but 3 more cats (not mine my sisters so I cant get rid of them) what should I do :confused::confused:

Stop buying chameleons if the cats can get to them?
Keep the cats out of the room the chameleon is in?
Watch out before you become the crazy old cat ladies?

Put an electric colar on the cat . Everytime he or she gets near zaap!!! I believe its called clasical conditioning:)

Kill the cats in a freak accident. "I was bathing them and I accidentally plugged the toaster in and dropped it in the bath, oops, sorry" :D:D:D

Don't allow the cats in the same room as the chameleon EVER. If you don't give the cats the opportunity, they can't do it. Make sure your sister and anyone else who is in the house keeps them out too.

I'm going to be rude here and apologize in advance.

Cats kill things, It is what they do and they are very good at it. It is why we keep them, it is why they have quite literally made agrarian society possible for humans. If you like going to the store any buying bread say thank you to your cat. Food storage was difficult and a lot was lost before that cats showed up to keep rodent and pest populations down. Many attribute the spread of the plague in medieval Europe to a general hatred and extermination of cats at the time. If you don't believe me look it up it isn't exactly a secret. If you think we no longer need cats ask anyone who keeps a ranch or farm if cats or poison works better to keep pests out...

The take away here is cats kill things and that is why we keep them. (Some keep them because they are cute but they are mistaken, cats aren't cute they are badass killers who clear our disease spreading destructive vermin).

The party at fault here is YOU. Not the cat, not your sister, not the chameleon who escaped.

I keep a chameleon in a house with four cats and will be keeping more chameleons shortly. I have kept many cats with small animals and never had a problem because I follow one simple rule: Keep small animals in an area where the cats can't get to them, keep the enclosures closed and locked.

If you are the type of person who can't remember to close a cage or have the wherewithal to create an enclosure that is cat proof you should probably not have a delicate animal in your care.

If you can be observant and careful then you should own a chameleon and this will not be a problem again.

Thats just plain lame and irresponsible.
I dont care what the excuse, you should, and could have prevented such a thing from happening.
So a life needs to be sacrificed just so you can learn a lesson.
Shame on you

End of rant!

Not if someone else let the cats in the room. An irresponsible family member could have caused the issue since the OP doesn't actually own the cats (the sister does.) Or what if a family member brought the killer cat home without the OP knowing?

I doubt this is the case but on the off chance the OP had no knowledge there was a cat in the house they get a free pass and their family member who let the cat in without telling is at fault. Either way someone was completely irresponsible and it is not the fault of the cat or the chameleon.

I agree that it is absolutely not the fault of the animals. The cat was just doing what it was meant to do.

LOL!!!! Oh, come on.... sounds like you are making up excuses ;)
If that is true, then NONE of us are safe! are we!!??

I mean, gee, what if my hatefull neighbor broke out my window and threw a
live, wild, ally cat into my reptile room!!??

The "what if" senarios are endless!!

Hmmmmm....Lets see. I hate cats so what things can you do so that you are able to keep your Chameleons safe you those evil predators. Well....

You can either buy something to eat the cat.

that....or,

take those 3 lil kittens on a little drive to a grocery store or some place you go hang out for a while, accidentally leave the door open while you go shopping, and then come back to your shock "OH NO!!!" the horror of three llil cats missing.

If those ideas don't work for you, you can always let your sisters push you around and let their cats keeping eatting your chameleons.

Personally I would tell my sisters, "The next cat that eats my chameleon belongs to me! Either you make sure your cats stay away from my chameleon, or I'll make sure your cats dies the same horrible death as my lizard did!" If they dont take you serious, they really didnt love their cats.

I say BOOOOOO to this statement. No love for cats here. This is the "Chameleon Forums" not the "I love cats forums"... and you call yourself a Senior Memeber. LMAO.

Or just kill the cats. Problem solved. Theyre crap animals anyway, sleeping all day, screeching all night, going out and fighting, catching fleas, bringing dead mice, birds etc into the house, killing Chameleons! Just kill them!

Only joking, I dont like cats but dont kill them. Really. Try to lose them somewhere and they will find their way back somehow. Perhaps give them away without telling your sisters and say they went out and didnt come back. lol

Its not irresponsible to accidentally leave a door open, its an accident and they do happen, just ask the people who claim 1000's per year in compensation and put your insurance premiums through the roof!

Because a chameleon is not also an evil predator who will also kill just about anything small enough to eat? Because you are not also a predator?

Hating animals and proposing cruelty in general leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I am okay with animals being animals and I don't hate nature and life like you obviously do. It is our responsibility as people who choose to keep animals to keep them safe and well cared for and retaliating against the cats is not only ignorant but selfish and cruel.

I have a low opinion of people like you and am not sure why I am even responding...

It IS irresponsible. You don't get a margin for error when life is involved and where there is a likelihood for error you need to put a fail safe in place.

It is never inappropriate to be a proponent of good animal husbandry and caring about life. Sorry for your closed minded approach to life.
