Just to be safe I would use mesh all the way to respirator avoid problems. I have a wooden viv with all sides mesh and I live in Calgary, AB. This month had temps that were as low as -37 degrees Celsius. Just make sure your cham has enough heat.

I use RO water, I fill up an 18.6 gal jug every 2 weeks at superstore it cost around 2 bucks I don't think Calgary tap water is sufficient for chameleons.
