Free range Q

Ok so I have a new bigish schefflera plant that I have on a table, I have the uvb light standing up next to it for now until I can hang it over somehow.
I keep the plant misted but Monty keeps climbing up the blinds above the plant.
Ok so my Question is to those who free range, how do you keep your chameleon misted and water for them. Do you keep a cage nearby that they can go in for water or just keep misting them with a spray bottle?
I have kept the plant misted so he can lick off the plant if he wants.

The center of our free range features a drip system and light at the top, two hanging plants, one beneath the other, and a catch basin at the bottom. Thaxter can come and go (via bendy vines) from this "Chameleon Condo", but this is where he's watered; if I don't observe him go over to drink, I will put him there. He will drink from the dripper, but a 5-10 minute session with a mister really helps get him in the drinking mood.
Some free rangers have chams that will drink from an eyedropper or other such device; Thaxter used to, but won't so much any more.

Thanks, the hanging plant is a great idea Ill get one or two of those. Do you have any pics of your set up.

I free range both my chams. If weather premits I take them outside to my screened back porch or to their trees in the back yard for mistings. They both drink from a dropper. Here's some pictures of my free ranges in the house, the big misting cage on the porch, their trees in the back yard and a short video of Luie drinking from his dropper.

stupid question... but how do you train your chams to come back to you if they get out of reach or you are looking for them? or do you keep an eye on them throught their free range time?

My chams free range 24/7 and have free range of my entire house if they want it. I don't train them to come to me, they are free to do as they want altho most of the time they choose to stay in their trees.

so then my question is do you do anything to cham proof your house?

they are like little quiet children, silently running around getting into things... we dont want them to get hurt... my veiled crawls EVERYWHERE!

My house is mostly cham proof. How old are your chams? They must be young.....when younger they tend to roam more.

im not 100% sure of how old my veiled is because i got her for free from a pet store who just wanted to get rid of her so i got her as a freebe... she is young.. between 3-6 months is my guess... i have tons of pics on my profile... im also going to get a fairly young (3-4 month) panther soon... and im sure they will become more lazy with age, but im just trying to make sure she gets her exercise and enjoys being out and about so she will want to come out more

WOW JAnnb absolutely beautiful set up you have. Ok so now how do you feed them? do you have a bowl of worms or something and what about crix how do you feed crickets in a free range set up?

I cup feed mostly......sometimes hand feed.

Love the video .. I give my girl showers. She used to hate them but now she comes right out and practically asks for one. Luie is gorgeous - you wouldn't happen to be breeding your chams, would you? I'm looking for a male veiled.

Thanks for the compliment. I have eggs due to hatch in a couple months but don't think I can ship to Canada.

The Chameleon Condo is in the third and fourth picture here (complete with drinking chameleon!). Mine has free-ranged since he was >5 inches snout-to-vent (I'm worried about "turning them loose" any smaller than that). In the early years, we confined him to the living room with a board lowered across the doorway or he would have gone anywhere and everywhere (the few times we didn't lower the gate, he went exploring); after about 2.5 years old, he started slowing down and had two or three preferred spots where you could generally expect to find him.
We have no furry pets. All terraria and aquaria have tight-fitting lids (they will climb cords and air hoses up to fish tanks). He once got behind a bookcase on a stereo cord and stayed there 'til I took the case apart looking for him the next day, but that's about the most trouble he's gotten himself into.
