I thought it was finaly time to create a new thread on the progressing treatment on Izzie since the original threat is roughly about 25 pages long?? I would like to dedicate this thread to Before, During & After Pictures of Izzie along with all the treatments that we've done for her over these last few month. I would like this to be an easy to get to thread with all the info needed if and in case this happens to anyone else...WHICH I HOPE IT DOSNT...

I can say it's been a long few months with her trying to get her better...figuring out what was wrong with her and what treatment to do next, or if we should even continue for her sake...and it's still a fighting battle with her..But I can finally say that she's slowly getting better, she's more active roaming around her cage, drinking well, eating..is another story

Alrighty lets get these Pictures going...

First up are the Pics of Izzie's before her Accident:

I find it kind of funny that your name is Kayla too, and I have been in the same exact situation as you too! My last chameleon, Molly, was a petsmart rescue and was blind. we tried and tried but we could never get her eyes quite right. I had to force feed her the whole time and gave her 3cc of lactated ringers every other day subQ. Luckily she got very tolerant, but was very stubborn about swallowing her food. She unfortunately passed away 8 months after I rescued her, but I am very blessed because we didn't think she would live 1 week. everyone on here was very helpful and loved little Molly. When she had a huge vet bill and needed a bunch of things that I just couldn't supply at the time, many people pitched in to help us. I hope your little girl gets back to her beautiful, healthy self soon, I know how stressful it is for not only the cham but you too to have to see her like that.

Treatment

Okay Sooo right after her accident the very first thing that was done, we started her on Baytril .03cc orally once a day normally done for 2 weeks but we did it longer..we also did Sub Q Fluids which we started out with 1.5cc Every Other Day...than later on "a couple months into her treatment" started to give her 1cc everyday... Anyways the baytril will kill any infection before it happens...but in this case did not work :( So0o, about a months time she started to do "Open Mouth Breathing" I got a Culture done, the results came back saying that she had a Staph/Strep Infection along with a Yeast Infection...So obviously no more baytril..We then started her on Bactrim .06cc was used for the Staph and Strep Infection and Fluconazole 0.1cc was used for her Yeast Infection..These meds were used for 2 weeks, and now there's no more open mouth breathing...I havent gotten a second culture done to make sure the infections are gone..But I will soon :) Through these treatments the Sub Q Fluids are still being done "I Believe" that they have alot to do with her recovery. Then after treating this she developed a swollen neck and swelling under her arms...So I did some pretty extensive research asked TO MANY people.."Sorry For Bugging You Guys!" Ive come to find out that she has Edema...which is cause by an overload of phosphorus in the blood stream which causes kidney/organ failure..So this is currently being treat with Mylanta with 0.1cc for 2 weeks. And lets hope this is the last thing... :)

But I left out through these treatments, she went up and down, weaker and stronger...I can swear she had passed away...then the next day she's very active...it was literally one extreme to the next...But through all of this she has been drinking well on her own, for a while I hand fed her "when she let me" I also used the Bug Juice Recipe for a while which you can find if you search it, and now as of these last couple weeks she's not letting me feed her daily which I would like to do for her but I am able to get a couple things in her here and there...but for today...she seems to be improving strength is getting better and her urge to bite me is coming back :)

I will post any further updates on her in this thread...Thanks to those who have been following her story and I hope this information is helpful to those who need it.

Do you have a laying bin in for her. She looks pretty gravid.

Your doing an amazing job with her! Looks like her edema is starting to dissipate.

I've been following her story but had no helpful input so I sat back as a spectator. Hang in there she's looking good!

The amount of time and effort you have put into her is amazing and shows how much you care. I thinks thats great.

I've also been following the thread. I gotta say I've learned a lot from the pictures and information Chris Anderson posted. It's unfortunate that this happened, but the information in that thread undoubtedly made some chameleon keepers even more knowledgeable.

Good luck with her. Please keep the updates coming.

I most certainly will keep up with the updates on her. Yes I do agree Chris A. does have alot of knowledge about chams which benefits us with more knowledge :) Lucky Us!! hehe There's also others that have posted some good info as well! And thanks..I've tried to keep up with her as much as I could.

Yea I was just using the info that Chris A posted as an example. There was so many posts with great info and advice.

I'll be waiting for the "she laid eggs!" post next :)
