Crest lifting away

Three Stoats

My Veiled Chameleon Fergal is now 3 y/o and has so far lived a very happy and problem free life. Just recently I've noticed the peak of his crest has split from the arc 2/3rds of the way up, to the tip. There does appear to be a new area of crest growing underneath the area that's split away. He's living in a Exo Terra Terrarium with a gauze topper. His heat lamp sits above the lid. There's nothing in his terrarium he could've damaged his crest on. I was wondering if this is the start of a crest peel (if such a thing exists), or if it might be something to do with the distance of his lamp? Any help would be very much appreciated, I'll endeavor to add a couple of photos. Many thanks

My Tommy had the same thing - I feel that it was a result of built up shed as his previous owner didn't mist him properly, so therefore he was never able to shed his casque fully. Tommy is approx 4 years old and had part of the shed still stuck to the top edge of his casque after the tip like your cham's fell away some months ago. However, Tommy knocked the last bit of his off a couple of days ago when he fell out of his tree.:( I tried bathing it in warm water several times but that only softened it up rather than removed it. Here is a pic of Tommy's casque - the bit that had lifted up broke off and the shed remained stuck further down towards his head, but like I said, he knocked the last stubborn bit off this week! I hate to think how many layers it was as it was almost like fingernail strength it was so hard!

The ladies already have you covered. Just mist him lots and lots to help get that build up off. He is a nice looking cham, I think you are doing well with him.
