Chameleon Proofing Free Range

Hey everyone im sure most of you have read the thread on here of a cham being burnt by its heatlamp. Thank god the little guy is eating again, but ever since i read this ive been having nightmares of the same happening to my cham. He is freeranged 24/7 and for his size his heatlamp is way out of reach for him to get to, but still you can never be to careful.

Last night ive been drawing up some plans and started to build a screen that will go between him and his uvb and heat bulb. And i have to say its makes his F/R look aloooot better and easier to view since i'm no longer blinded by his uvb and heat lamp, while all at the same time making it much safer for him and absolutly eliminating the chances of his crawling up to his heatlamp.

I thought it was an awesome idea and something everyone should use in a F/R. Best part is that it only costs about $20 to make!!!!!!! Looks Great!!! and only took a few hours to build!!!

I will be posting up some pics tonight for everyone to see and if anyone wants to use this idea i would be more than happy to make a "How To" on it if requested.

Thanks for looking and have a great day guys!

I can't wait to see your pics! I have been working on cham-proofing my boy's area so I don't have to sit and watch him the whole time. I agree about the fear about lights burning them... I have been very paranoid about that too!

I also loved your cricket cup. It's lovely! :)

haha Thanks again. I am actually finishing it up 2morrow. And adding a humidifier I made to the enclosure too. i've been very busy with work and can only fit in a few hours a day to work on this cham proofing fixture. I will deff post up the pictures once its finished!

Sorry about the wait guys. The project took longer than expected. Here are the pics.

The wood I had laying around the house from building the shelves u see underneath him. only thing I had to buy was the hard mesh screen and some cheap trim molding at home depot to make the frame of the metal screen.

Still haven't chameleon proofed the cables but for now I'm just keeping it out of his reach.

Anyway guys take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking- Jayce

I'm thinking if he can reach that mesh screen he'll crawl on it, go over the edge onto the top and right up to the lights but maybe I'm wrong. Your pictures are dark and hard for me to see.

Sorry about the pictures. I Am currently using the camera on my phone to take them and not the best quality. Hopefully these are better.

There is no way for him to climb up the heat light he can climb on the screen but not into where the lights are encloses. I even left a 3 inch gap between the screen and the heat lamp where he wont be able to touch any part of the heating dome or bulb. just in case.

And if anyone knows how I can directly include photos into the thread instead of attaching them that would be a very big help!
