i keep learning

it seems like the ch. trioceros fuelleborni is not very common, so when i ask question to either a vet or a fellow chameleon owner they may not know much about his species little quirks, and i keep learning. I've had my guy for 2 years. 2 YEARS and his horns have never actully "shed" the vet said "well maybe they don't " so i've always left them alone since it bothers him when i poke and prode at him (naturally). So today we were hanging out outside. i was painting and he was chillin next to me on his ficus, i noticed some loose white skin left over from his last shed right about his eye. Now, for everyone who hasn't seen one of these fuelleborni's up close they have sort of like "eye brows" that are made up of the same stuff his horns are made of. so i figured i'd torcher him a bit and get the last little bit of skin off. i very gentley got my thumb nail by his eye to pick off the skin and he moved! POP! off came this cap like thing from his eye brow! and under it was nice clean, fresh looking brown color. i examined what had come off; it was just layers and layers of dead skin! Have you ever seen those caps they make for cats toe nails you just glue them on and the cat can't scratch. thats what his eye brow"skin" looked like!

:eek:i was disgusted! so i had to "torchure" him some more. after that first one came off i think he realized what i was doing he stopped fight me, stoped trying to get away, turned a nice green/turquise combo. he was loving it!:D

I wish somebody could have told me "yes, laura-lou, their horns DO shed, you dumb-dumb head!":p

I just keep learning.
