Boiling eggs

So, you want to boil an egg or two and your just not sure exactly how to go about it.
No fear!
Here I will explain the proper way to boil an egg.

First, you need to figure out how many eggs you want to boil. I like to have two at a time myself.

After you have that figured out, you must decide on a pot to boil them in. The pot should allow all eggs to fit into the bottom, with a little room to move around. The pot should be at least twice the height of the eggs.

After you have that settled, you want to fill the pot with water, enough to cover the eggs and then some. Id recommend having at least 2" of water on top of the eggs.
The water should be cold
.

You will then take your pot of eggs and cold water and place it on the stove. Turn the heat on high.

Then you will have to wait awhile. The more eggs you are boiling, the longer this step is likely to take. Eventually, the water will boil.
Contrary to popular belief, a watched pot does boil, and I actually recommend watching it.

The reason you are watching it, is that as soon as the water boils you want to start a timer.

...but wait, what exactly constitutes boiling?

When the water has bubbles coming up from the bottom of the pot, the water is boiling. You dont need to wait for a full-rolling boil to start your timer. If its bubbling more than a tiny bit, you are fine.

Set the timer for 10 earth-minutes.

If you are using a shallow pot, or if the pot is quite full, you may want to reduce the heat a bit to keep it from boiling over.
I do not.

You then have those 10 minutes to do whatever you like, provided you are in ear-shot of the timer.

When your timer goes off, your eggs are cooked. :)

You then want to turn off the stove, and remove the pot to the sink.

Pour out all the water from the pot, and start cold water running over them.
This will cool them down, and make the de-shelling easier.

You can then start the de-shelling process.

To de-shell a boiled egg, you want to tap it on your kitchen counter (or other hard, clean surface). You should tap it all over, until the eggs shell is broken up all over the egg. The egg shell should just fall right off.
If it does not, pinch the shell, and tear it, it should then fall off.

You are then ready to eat your eggs. :)

I like to enjoy mine cut in half, with salt and pepper on top(heavy on the pepper).
I find a few pieces of toast and jam goes great with them, as well as all types of juice.

Dude you have to tell me why you posted a blog on boiling eggs?

I was bored, and frustrated from people asking me how to boil eggs.

I also wanted to try the BLOG out on this site.
I have been working on a serious, chameleon-related one, but had never posted one. So its kind of a test ;)

You are a sick person.
I will only eat hard boiled eggs, and do not acknowledge the existence of any other type of boiled egg.

I dont celebrate easter, but I guess it is kind of timely isnt it?

Exactly why I wrote this, feel free to print it off, and share it with anyone who asks you in the future ;)

I may do more recipes, and how-to's on cooking.
Its one of my favorite things, and I have a few great custom recipes ;)

Thanks for the "feedback" everyone

ive got a great recipe for hot buffalo chicken wing salad.

its pretty simple. if you like wings, this is great.

if you have half a rotisserie chicken remove and shred all the white meat. then take all the dark meat and fry it to desired consistency. grate some carrot and dice the celery. get your favorite brand of bleu cheese dressing and mix it with mayo until you have the desired flavor consistency. then mix everything together. be careful about the mayo/dressing ratio. you only need enough to hold it together and too much will make the fried dark meat soggy.

ratios of white to dark meat are up to preference. the fried dark meat is going to give it that wing crunch and texture but too much will make it tough to eat.

the carrots and celery again are up to preference, as long as the mixture holds well with the dressing youre good to go.

salt and pepper to taste but that is likely unnecessary. and remember to get a bottle of "franks hot buffalo" sauce to drench it in. this works for wraps, sandwiches, dips, or just straight up.

I have decided that the "blowing" method, is absolutely, most definitely, more trouble than just peeling it by hand.

I can tap the egg along the middle a few times, and the shell just falls off.

The other method, one must tap it at both ends, carefully peel off a small portion at each end, then exert more effort than blowing a balloon up, to get the egg to come out. ;/

It does work, but by the time I have all that done, I am normally done eating my eggs :p

I have yet to test the baking soda

Yes! Be excited!

I have never been fond of pork ;/ Yet I found a way to grill a tenderloin that anyone could thuroughly enjoy!
I think it will be the next blog...

Well, it took me a few tries, but I think I have got it! The problem was, I tried with 4 eggs to start, (trying to show off) and did not adjust the water level properly. What a mess! But following the steps you have provided I have almost mastered this technique ;)! I almost don't need a timer!
